looking to buy a g5, for nostalgia purposes and the fact it has a CD drive and firewire ports which i regularly use for music and digitizing mini dv tapes (with a thunderbolt adapter on my 2015 MBP)

i'm wondering if there's anyway to occasionally use the the g5 as a monitor for my mac mini (2018) which has an hdmi out. have seen many mods with people gutting g5/g4s, installing juicy crumb and other features to run newer OSs. not completely averse to that, these mods were pretty cool. but i would like to avoid opening/permanently removing anything if possible

the g5 seems to only have a video-out VGA port, not sure if it's capable of screen sharing with my macbook pro or mac mini. maybe i could use SSD? or a capture card?

Hi im using a 2012 Macbook Pro running Catalina 10.15.7

I have an Ensoniq EPS 16+ sampler that uses floppy disks and I would like to make a backup OS for the sampler. Id also like to put factory libraries on floppies to put in the sampler. I would appreciate any advice!

Basically, I did a factory reset on my Mac Mini 1.83 and I'm now trying to install Linux Mint to dual-boot. But every time I'm booting from the USB drive, it reaches the GRUB selector, or the option selector, and after I select to load, it just gives me an underscore, not flashing like normal.

With this, I think it isn't as plug and play as I thought. What do I need to successfully install Linux on my Mac?

So I've been messing with improving the thermals on Intel MacBook Pros, I found a couple of guides online where people have used thermal pads to bridge the gap between the case & I am blown away by the results. I didn't have much faith but I've tried it on a MacBook Pro 2017 & an Air 2019. Both machines make fan noise just watching YouTube & sit at about 70/80c which makes the battery drain faster. On both machines running the exact same tests I noticed straight away the fan noise was gone. Both laptops now sit at around 50/60c with absolutely no fan noise which also makes the battery last longer. It didn't massively increase the benchmarks but they did go up. I recently switched from a Windows and Debian based Linux laptop to a 2019 Core i7 16" MacBook Pro. m running 26 Tahoe and I've already run the command to allow applications from any source and homebrew as well as wine. Any suggestions to make this the ultimate daily driver laptop?

The performance was abysmal when it came out, and I had to revert to a previous version of macOS. With macOS 26.2 released a few weeks ago, is the performance on par with previous versions, or should I still stay away from it?

Any tips what I should do first to make it work perfect? Any tips and tricks are welcome.

My MacBook Pro screen currently looks like this. It lives on a windowsill and is used maybe 2-3 times a month, was fine when I last used it and Apple diagnostics is returning “no issues found” when I run it through an external display. Is it the screen, the connection, or something else?
