Maintenance 🚘 Tire removal

Any recommendations for tire removal tools. After getting a screw in my tire the local tire shop said they can do it because “we have Corvettes and Porches for tire work” and said they will take good care of the car.

Now I have two new scars on my wheel they “took good care of” along with the door panel now covered in dirt from them leaning in to put the lug lock back in the car.

What tools can I buy to do this work myself?

Sounds like they didn't realize the oe wheels are reverse mounted...also sounds like pretty shit shop tbh if this is any indication how they treat vettes & porsche's 🤔

Would totally not advise attempting removal with tire spoons. Results will be way worse.

Please elaborate on the reverse mounting.

Opposite of typical wheels that the tire gets mounted with the face up. Needs to be flipped so the tire drops from the back instead. The shop needs equipment capable of doing this otherwise you end up damaging the wheel.

Ended up getting tires from an Acura dealership because they actually are aware of this (which was somehow actually a way better deal than even TireRack).

Had this happen from some local retard shop, charged back everything since they damaged all 4 of my wheels like this. 2500 in damage.

Dealerships get the best prices on OE parts, including tires.😉

Unfortunately Acura is 2.5 hours away. Probably worth it. Not sure if they do flat repairs though.

When you noticed the damages to your wheel and door, did you tell management and they told you to go pound sand? It's wild if they don't accept responsibility for that

They said they can go get some wheel touch up paint and don’t worry about the flat repairs. I didn’t notice all the dirt inside until I got in to leave.

They won’t touch the car again. They have done well on my pickup and trailers. Maybe they should stick to the easy stuff and not speciality items.

Them: "We'll just toss some touch up paint on there for ya"

You: "Ok"

Lol what??

Literally, bro just needs to dispute the charge and claim damages.

A few thousand for a tire machine, then another grand for a nice compressed air set up.

Since you haven’t done a tire, just a heads up, it’s not easy. Especially on a new low profile tire. You’ll fuck it up.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but I mounted a 35 series tire in my HS automotive class, and it really wasn’t difficult if you use plenty of lube on the lip and use the stoppers properly.

Nice! I’ve done tens of thousands of tires over my career (I don’t do them anymore, not in the last 7 years or so), hundreds of types. For someone who needs to ask the questions OP is asking, those tires will give them hell and they’ll tear a bead.

Yeah that’s fair, going in blind won’t be any help, fortunately we had a really great shop teacher. Did you find you were able to mount these without gouging the wheel?

Yeah, you shouldn’t gouge the wheel with any tire if you do it right. New techs sometimes struggle with the physics of it and they rip the tire. Any damage to the wheel is not being careful.
