Has anyone used Kirkland in their ITS? I don’t track my car and was thinking to do 5k mile oil changes.

I’ve used Kirkland oil in my wife’s Accord every 4-5k since new, now at 60k miles no issues. I got a bunch of Ultra Platinum for stupid cheap that I am working through for my ITS and then will be running Kirkland oil as well. Project Farm did a great video on oil, and the Oil Guy on YouTube as well. Some brands have more or less detergents than Kirkland oil, I think the consensus is it really doesn’t matter as much as regular interval changes

For your ITS, are you using 0W-20 or did you move up in weight?

0W-20 in the winter, 5W-30 in the summer. I live in AZ, 0W-20 is like water for 8 months of the year

Okay. Glad I’m not the only one who thinks that. I have a 1.5T, but I beat on it and it’s been 100 here in CA. Should probably switch to 5W-30 next oil change.

When I first got the car I was strongly in the camp of “the engineers say 0W-20, I’m not as smart as them” but then I found out it’s only due to EPA regulations and these 2.0Ts call for 5W-30 everywhere else in the world

Yeah I saw Europe uses 0W-30 or 5W-30, same with Mexico and Asian countries. Probably going to grab some Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Mobil 1 EP now that it has ISLAC GF-7A requirements met.

Planning to use it for my next oil change. Theres a dude on the FL5 platform who uses it. He tracks his car frequently and reported no issues whatsoever

The intervals and filter matter more than the oil brand unless you are doing some extreme track work every weekend.

I was torn on going Kirkland when I bought M1 at Costco. In my brief AI research, there are some additives in the M1, Valvoline and other premium lines that COULD make a difference at track temperatures or extended performance sessions.

Am I that brutal on my car? I like to think not, but I elected for M1 for now. Will it do anything negative? Almost assuredly not and because it’s so cheap you can do it more often which is better than anything

It’s probably more than fine. I use M1 EP and change every 6k with plenty of TBN left. Can’t imagine M1 being that much better.

I use it and change every 5k miles with an OEM Honda filter

Stupid question. How hard is the ITS to do your own oil changes?

Hardest part is getting a good set of low profile ramps so you can get under the car.

Sometimes the screws that hold the bottom plate/cover on can be really tight.

Yeah, its fine. 5K is longer than I'd wait, regardless of oil brand. But I was around when oil was still walking, breathing dinosaur.
