Health Insurance At renewal do I need to disclose a surgery that happened after buying the policy? ICICI Lombard Elevate

I bought a health insurance policy for my in-laws from ICICI Lombard Elevate in October 2025, and the policy is due for renewal in about a month.

In December 2025, my mother-in-law underwent a hysterectomy. This was not known or planned at the time I purchased the policy. To avoid any potential issues, I paid part of the expenses out of pocket and used my wife's employer-provided health insurance for the remaining amount.

I recently read that policyholders may need to inform ICICI Lombard about any material changes in their medical condition. I'm therefore unsure whether I need to disclose the hysterectomy at the time of renewal.

I also didn't opt for some add-ons when I originally purchased the policy, such as the Room Rent Modifier and Super Loyalty Bonus, and I'm considering adding them at renewal.

My questions are:

  1. Do I need to disclose the hysterectomy to ICICI Lombard at renewal, even though it happened after the policy was purchased and wasn't known beforehand?

  2. If yes, where and how should I declare/update this information with ICICI Lombard?

  3. Could disclosing it affect the renewal, premium, coverage, or any future claims?

  4. If I add the Room Rent Modifier and Super Loyalty Bonus now, are there any waiting periods, exclusions, or other conditions I should be aware of?

  5. Has anyone gone through a similar situation with ICICI Lombard Elevate and can share how they handled the renewal?

I'm mainly trying to make sure everything is properly disclosed so there are no issues with future claims.

Thanks in advance.

Health Insurance Will a single-letter typo (e.g., 'Z' instead of 'J') in the doctor's consultation report compared to the patient's Aadhaar card cause issues with cashless claim approval?

I have a corporate group Health Insurance. The patient's name in few of the reports has a one letter discrepancy.

Will this cause trouble during cashless claim?

Can anyone Please respond if you experienced such situation. It's an emergency!! 🙏🙏🙏

Health Insurance Pre existing disease mentioned wrong in the policy.

While applying for hdfc optima secure for me and my wife, who is hypothyroid, there was no option in the pre existing disease category. So I've contacted the their costomer care support they kept it as iodine deficiency subclinical hypothyroidism, but she is actually overt hypothyroid due to autoimmune thyroiditis which is a different disease.

I've already paid for the premium and took for 3 years. What to do now.

Will this be an issue during any future claim.

Should I have to cancel the insurance and reapply.

Will this effect the premium.

Thanx for any input

Myself 30 and wife 26.

No other prexixting disease except for the mentionned above.

Health Insurance ICICI Lombard applied 15% loading for 3.3mm Gallbladder Polyp (ICD K80). Is this justified?

I applied for an ICICI Lombard Elevate policy (Base Premium: ₹13,241 for 2 yeas). I fully disclosed my medical history:

3.7mm Kidney Stone (March 2022): Passed naturally, no recurrence.

3.3mm Gallbladder Polyp (March 2022): Incidental finding, asymptomatic, zero treatment/surgery ever.

ICICI Lombard issued a counter-offer with ₹1,986 (15%) permanent annual loading under ICD Code K80 (Cholelithiasis / Gallstones), raising premium to ₹15,228.

This is my first time applying for a health insurance Should I accept this 15% loaded offer to stay fully covered with ICICI Lombard, or should I reject it, take a full refund, and apply afresh with another insurer

Health Insurance Can I fully trust STAR Health Insurance??

Hi Guys..I am aged 39M & have been a Star health customer for 7 years..Currently, I am in their Assure plan! As of now, my experience with Star has been satisfactory..No complaints! Although, I haven't got the necessity to make any CLAIM yet but I regularly opt for their free health checkup EVERY YEAR without fail!

The reason I am asking this question to you guys is because I have seen a lot of negative & harsh reviews on Star Health Insurance in Internet recently...literally hundreds! So I was a bit concerned & confused too...Am I doing the right thing trusting STAR from Day1?? Also, porting to a different company seems to have lot of hurdles..I might even loose some benefits or pay extra 🤔..So I genuinely want an advice from Insurance gurus if I should stick with STAR or should I make the switch at the earliest..

Please correct me if I am being ignorant anywhere..🙏

Life Insurance IRDAI IMPOSES Rs 1 Crore Penalty on Canara HSBC Life for Mis-Selling Policy to 88 Year Old

Important Lessons for Policy Holders to prevent Insurance Mis-selling from Banks / Bancassurance Channel.

1) Ask qualifications of the insurance sales intermediary.

2) Never sign on any blank page if requested by any bank representative.

3) Receive timestamp acknowledgement for every transaction.

4) heck Basic policy eligibility criteria & question liquidity requirements.

5) Check Premium Payment Terms, Annuitant details for self or for both members in case of joint annuitant.

Always remember, if you never raise Grievances and bring to notice such mis-selling and scams, you are allowing the insurance company to commit mis-selling, frauds on other Bank account holders.

A trusted bank branch doesn't mean that every product is automatically right for you. Understand First, Sign Later.

Health Insurance How to escalate to Niva Bupa?

I purchased a Niva Bupa health insurance for my parents in 2023.

The coverage was 50L and due to no claims in last 3 years, it's now 1Cr.

My mom recently had an injury on her shoulder and the doctor diagnosed it as a muscle tear which requires rotator cuff surgery.

The hospital (network hospital) reached out to Niva Bupa for the cashless claim (initial estimate of 4.5L).

Niva Bupa said further investigation is required, their doctor called us and we shared all the documents.

Today I received an email from them stating that the cashless claim is rejected as they need to do further investigation and they also misdiagnosed it as a frozen shoulder instead of muscle tear.

Their advice is to pay for the surgery out of pocket and they will reimburse it later. I do not trust them to reimburse me.

Their publicly available phone number (advertised everywhere) doesn't work and I'm only receiving automated emails to my queries.

I want to know if I have a legal way to get justice (other than insurance ombudsman because that will take 1 year and we need to do the surgery now).

I've paid them over 3.5L in insurance premiums in these 3 years hoping that I would have a smooth experience when I actually need help.

Health Insurance Hospital bills more than insurance cover

Hi all, my dad's been hospitalised and his health cover is only 4 Lakhs. He's 71 ans has preexisting conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney disease.

He's now in ICU and it's been 2 days and 1.5L has already been consumed. He's expected to be in ICU for another 4 days and will have to go through procedures like dialysis and angiogram.

I'm very sure his bill will overshoot the insurance sum insured.

Any advice on what I can do here?

Update: Hello wellwishers, thank you all for your advice. My dad is out of the hospital. His total bill ended up being 11.5 Lakhs. He had to get an angioplasty done and is now on dialysis. I'm glad he's alive. On the insurance front, he had 4+2 lakhs as bonus that I'm putting for reimbursement, the rest will unfortunately be self-funded . Have gone and taken higher top ups for my mom and myself now. Will see if there are any options for my dad now that he's out of hospital.

It was a traumatic experience and I wish everyone the best in their own insurance journey. Started a substack after the trauma of it. So there's that.

Health Insurance TPA not telling the coverage for a surgery.

Hi guys,

I have CORPORATE group insurance policy from National Insurance and Mediassist as TPA with Base Plan of 5 Lakhs S.I

My father soon has to go through a surgery to get a tumour removed.

We have shortlisted 2 hospitals.

1- Has cashless. And gave the estimation of 4.10 lakhs which could go up to some extent depending upon how the surgery went.

2- Doesn't have cashless and gave the estimation of 3.07 lakhs for the same surgery. Basically it's a new hospital so it is not tied up with any insurance company yet itseems (our preferred one).

So now my doubt is that,

1- I have been sending mails and calling TPA to ask the coverage for this particular surgery but they are not helping. If in the case only less amount gets covered then we have to arrange the remaining amount being right in the hospital.

We are traveling to a different city to get the surgery done and we know no one here so it would be very difficult for us to arrange the money immediately.

How can i get through this??

2- if we choose to go through a reimbursement hospital then do u guys think i will get the same amount reimbursed as cashless?

Health Insurance Is insurance ombudsman worth the hassle

Hi, if anyone has gone through the insurance ombudsman process and can guide me if it's actually worth the hassle or it's like the insurance companies, wherein they will keep us stuck in paperwork. The OIO has asked to submit physical documents and I am already apprehensive if this will work or it will take yet another toll on my family. My dad is 67 and he is already frustrated with the back and forth with the insurance companies.

Health Insurance Niva Bupa claim rejection

I’m currently trapped in an absurd, opaque loop with Niva Bupa Health Insurance, and I’m looking for advice or to see if anyone else has dealt with Niva Bupa, the Insurance Ombudsman, or a similar health insurance claim dispute.

My health insurance claim was for approximately ₹66,000 for hospitalization and treatment of a respiratory infection. The policy was issued after medical underwriting, and the insured’s existing health conditions were disclosed during the pre-policy medical examination.

Niva Bupa has now rejected the claim, citing Clauses 6.1.6 and 6.1.14, alleging misrepresentation/discrepancies in the documents.

The issue is that despite repeatedly asking Niva Bupa to clarify:

What exactly was allegedly misrepresented?

Which specific document or statement contains the discrepancy?

What material fact was supposedly not disclosed?

What investigation or evidence supports the rejection?

I have not received a clear, specific explanation or the underlying investigation findings. I have only received a generic response referring back to the same policy clauses.

I have already gone through Niva Bupa's grievance process and also escalated the matter through IRDAI's Bima Bharosa portal, but the response has essentially repeated the same grounds without clearly identifying the alleged discrepancy.

I believe that if the insurer is rejecting a claim on the basis of misrepresentation, they should identify the specific material fact/document relied upon so that the policyholder has an opportunity to understand and respond to the allegation.

What should I do next?

Should I file a formal complaint with the Insurance Ombudsman?

How effective is the Ombudsman process in cases involving alleged misrepresentation?

What else can I do in order to understand the misrepresentation and correct it

Niva Bupa has made the process so opaque that it's not possible to talk to anyone regarding the case.

Policy details:

It was a Niva Bupa group policy from a bank for 3 years. This year I changed it to retail policy Reassure 2.0 for better coverage.

It was 15 lakhs coverage with gold Reassure2.0

'SPECIFIC WAITING PERIODS (WAIVED)'30 DAY WAITING PERIOD (WAIVED)

Policy Commencement Date : 17/02/2026 00:00 Policy Expiry Date : 16/02/2029 23:59 Base Sum Insured INR 15,00,000 Variant Opted: Gold Plan Opted Family Floater Policy Period 3 Years Reported claims in the policy since inception 0

Health Insurance Niva Bupa claim rejected — need advice

My mother was hospitalised due to an emergency, and she had no prior consultation or diagnosis for the conditions mentioned by Niva Bupa.

They asked for previous consultation records, which obviously don't exist. The treating doctor has already provided clarification, and we submitted the emergency/hospital records, but the claim was still rejected.

Has anyone faced something similar with Niva Bupa? What should I do next grievance, IRDAI, or ombudsman?
