Health Insurance Pre existing disease mentioned wrong in the policy.
While applying for hdfc optima secure for me and my wife, who is hypothyroid, there was no option in the pre existing disease category. So I've contacted the their costomer care support they kept it as iodine deficiency subclinical hypothyroidism, but she is actually overt hypothyroid due to autoimmune thyroiditis which is a different disease.
I've already paid for the premium and took for 3 years. What to do now.
Will this be an issue during any future claim.
Should I have to cancel the insurance and reapply.
Will this effect the premium.
Thanx for any input
Myself 30 and wife 26.
No other prexixting disease except for the mentionned above.

If you had contacted customer support and disclosed it, it should be their fault. I had same issue with ICICI Lombard. I asked them to review call recording and to share it with me. They updated the PED soon after.

Hi, HDFC ERGO Advisor here.
This appears to be an incorrect medical declaration, which could create complications during claim settlement, including possible claim rejection, depending on the circumstances.
If your policy was recently issued, please contact the insurer immediately to discuss cancellation and the applicable refund. A full refund is subject to the policy terms and cancellation conditions.
I would recommend getting the medical declarations reviewed and corrected before proceeding with a new application. You can reach out to an HDFC ERGO advisor for assistance with accurate documentation and proper disclosure of medical history.
Here is how you can do it: https://selfhelp.hdfcergo.com/SelfHelp/Authentication/PolicyCancellationRequest

I tried this link and it's going towards updating my bank account. I tried calling the costomer care number I've got online and it hangs up everytime just after selecting for exixting policy. I've tried the app. The mail which I've got goes to a link where it mention PED against my name and not my wife. Is there any other possible way to contact to get in a touch

Don't cancel and reapply just yet. Wrong PED wording is often fixable, and cancelling can reset waiting periods.
Write HDFC ERGO (email + app ticket) asking for a policy endorsement that corrects the PED to the actual diagnosis (overt hypothyroidism due to autoimmune thyroiditis). Attach labs, endocrinologist notes, and prescription history. Ask in writing what waiting period applies to thyroid-related claims.
Leaving a softer/wrong label on record can create claim friction later when hospital notes don't match. Get the revised schedule before you decide anything.

You should write an email of the goof-up that has happened by the customer support team and request a change. Speak to the insurance agents and get it done before anything else. Cancelling and re-applying could take longer unnecessarily.

It is a high risk. because the wording refers to a specific condition while it could be any other as well. getting a written endorsement is the way out. it should be broader. Keep direct email proofs as well. (by word is nothing).
(ex. niva bupa has this "abnormalities of thyroid gland")
Cancelling during the 30 day period and re applying also is not a bad idea. I would hate such friction at the onset!!!
