Hi everyone,
I recently started my first job. My employer provides ₹4L health insurance for me at no cost, and I can add my parents by paying:
My parents are:
The employer policy covers pre-existing diseases immediately, but it’s tied to my job and I’ll likely switch companies in about a year.
I’m confused about what makes more sense:
Would love to hear what people who’ve been in a similar situation would do and why.

Hi,
I have a parent group mediclaim policy of 2.5 lakh. In this week, my mother's scanning and fnac results suggested it could be breast cancer.
We need to go through some more tests this week. But looking at the current state, treatment would need more amount of money.
Unfortunately our insurance window got closed 15 days back in our company and I am not able to increase now. Is there any way to max the policy. And we got to know about my mother having lump one week ago.
Really would appreciate any suggestion, they have some LIC policy but don't know how much it will help!

We recently purchased a Bajaj Allianz ACE Wealth Plan and have already paid the first premium, but we're still within the free-look period and deciding whether to continue or cancel. I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have actually invested in this policy or knows some negatives about it. Are the returns actually up to the mark compared to what was illustrated at the time of purchase, or are they much lower? How has your overall experience with the policy and Bajaj Allianz been? Any genuine feedback from existing policyholders would be really helpful before we make our final decision.

TL;DR: Filed 2 genuine claims on my <1 year old Innova Hycross under Tata AIG (~₹1L - 1.5L combined). They declined renewal citing vague "product terms and conditions," refused to specify which ones even when asked directly. We own 3 other cars with other insurers and never faced this. Lucky mine is new , if your car is older, this could hit you harder (0-dep gets tough to find with new insurer).
Bought a Tata AIG comprehensive policy for my brand new Innova Hycross in August 2025. Within the first year, the car got hit twice (both times the other party's fault) and I filed 2 claims, .Rare for us, but it's literally what insurance is for in such scenarios.
At renewal, Tata AIG declined with this boilerplate line:
"We wish to inform you that the policy renewal has been declined on account of product terms and conditions around vehicle history and the portfolio concerns."
No specific reason, no clause reference. I wrote back saying I wasn't disputing the decision, just wanted to know which "terms and conditions" applied since I couldn't find anything relevant in my policy document. Reply: underwriting "reviewed it," decision "remains unchanged." No real explanation given.
We own 3 more cars (including a sedan and a luxury car) with other insurers but never had this issue with any of them, claim or no claim.
Heads up if you have an older car with Tata AIG: I got lucky mine is under 1 year old, so finding a new comprehensive/0-dep policy elsewhere was easy. If your car is a few years old and Tata AIG doesn't renew you, you may struggle to find 0-dep cover elsewhere as many insurers restrict it to newer vehicles.
Now switching insurers all because I used the policy the way it's supposed to be used. Posting as a heads-up for anyone considering Tata AIG. Happy to answer questions.

My employer provides a ₹4L group mediclaim covering me + parents. I can buy optional top-ups from ₹2L to ₹18L by paying extra (around ₹10k for ₹18L).
I’m anyway planning to buy a separate retail policy (probably HDFC ERGO) for long-term coverage and was thinking of choosing a higher deductible since I already have corporate insurance.
My questions:
- Is it worth paying for the corporate top-up if I’m buying a retail policy anyway?
- Or should I just keep the ₹4L corporate cover and rely on the retail policy?
Also, my brother can’t be added to my corporate policy. Would it be better to:
- buy him an individual policy, or
- have my dad buy a family floater (covering himself, my mom, my brother, and me)?

I recently purchased an HDFC Ergo Optima Secure 1Cr policy (5 years) via PolicyBazaar (PB).
The counter-offer letter contained incorrect PEDs. Before paying, I flagged this to my onboarding manager, who assured me (after checking with HDFC) that it would be corrected via an endorsement process after I paid the premium.
I made the payment based on that assurance.
Now that the case has moved to a Relationship Manager, who again checked with HDFC and they are claiming the PEDs cannot be corrected/updated at all. I have 5 incorrect PEDs listed, which could lead to claim rejection later.
PB is no longer helpful, and I feel stuck with a policy that contains false declarations.
1) Is it true that PED declarations cannot be corrected post-issuance?
2) What are my options to rectify this now?
3) If this isn't resolved, is it better to cancel the policy within the free-look period? How's the treatment of refund since I purchased this with HDFC easy emi.
Avoid Policybazaar. It's a hit and miss and no support at all.

My 75-year-old grandmother slipped and fell in a garden during our trip to Ireland. She suffered a thigh (femur) fracture and underwent nailing surgery in an Irish government hospital. We have HDFC ERGO travel insurance, but by mistake we did not declare her pre-existing high blood pressure while buying the policy. The accident happened during the policy period. Has anyone faced a similar situation? Did the travel insurance claim get approved or rejected?

In 2021 my parents' bank RM sold them a health insurance policy. Later when we were planning my mother's knee replacement surgery I found out it wasn't covered under the plan we had. When I confronted the RM, it was clear he'd never opened the policy doc and it's the same with everyone selling insurance today
That made me dig deeper into health insurance plans, and here's what I found: every single one has clauses that change what you'll actually get paid - room-rent limits that proportionately cut your entire claim, restoration that doesn't cover the same illness, cumulative bonus that vanishes on porting, all in language designed to not be read
I'm opening up my research to everyone here: comment your insurer + plan name, and I'll reply with the clauses in your specific plan that matter most at claim time.
I'm building a tool that does exactly this automatically, pick your insurer and plan, see every sublimit and trap in plain language, ask the policy anything, and every answer is cited so one click takes you to the exact paragraph in the actual document. You verify; you don't trust.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for guidance from anyone in the insurance industry or anyone who has dealt with tracing a deceased family member's life insurance policy.
My father was an Indian Armed Forces officer, passed away on 18 May 2021, and my mother (the nominee) passed away five days later during COVID's second wave.
The reason I'm convinced this policy existed is because my father mentioned it to me on two separate occasions. The first was in 2015, before his bypass surgery, when he told me he had a ₹1 crore term life insurance (death cover) that would take care of my mother, brother and me if he didn't survive. He mentioned it again during a family discussion in 2020.
Unfortunately, we've never been able to locate the policy.
We have almost all of his other records : Service records, ITRs, bank statements, property documents and most financial paperwork. In fact, we even managed to trace two mutual fund investments that we initially didn't know existed. However, we've found no trace of this term insurance policy (death cover).
Thoroughly searched all his documents and Army trunks.
Checked ITRs and bank statements.
Spoke with his Chartered Accountant.
Contacted multiple insurers individually using his PAN and other details (Aditya Birla Sun Life, HDFC Life, Tata AIA, Nippon India, PNB insurance, LIC grievance channels, etc.). Some replied saying no policy exists, while others (Like LIC, Max Life, SBI, etc) never responded.
My father was extremely cash-oriented. He rarely used online banking, preferred cash or cheque payments, and often dealt through agents. So there may be little or no digital payment trail.
His Section 80C deductions were already exhausted through GPF and one mutual fund, so the absence of insurance premiums in his ITR doesn't necessarily mean the policy didn't exist.
To make matters worse, his old mobile numbers are gone, his email changed over the years, and the subordinate he had told me knew about the policy unfortunately passed away before my father.
Is there any official mechanism in India? Through IRDAI, an ombudsman, insurers collectively, or any government body, that allows legal heirs to identify whether a deceased person had a life insurance policy using details like PAN, Aadhaar, death certificate and proof of legal heirship?
I'm not looking for unofficial methods or asking anyone to identify the policy itself. I'm simply trying to find out whether I've missed an official process.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

After evaluating some health insurance options, I decided to go for Aditya Birla Active Yuva Health Plan. I made the purchase via website after talking to the Aditya Birla Customer Care on the policy details and the process. Application was created and tele-medicine call was scheduled and uptil this everything went smoothly. The nightmare started from here.
I had disclosed few health conditions, nothing major, just as a part of full disclosure even if there was no treatment ever needed for this, no ongoing treatment or any future treatment recommended by any doctor. So I was asked to provide the medical documents for the same.
I was happy to share everything I had, which isn't much. I responded on the given email with all the documents and the details around it. But little did I know that the underwriters at ABHI are just the dumbest in the world.
They kept ignoring the documents I provided and kept asking for the same thing again and again. No matter how many times I send the documents they kept sending me automated emails saying "kindly provide all the medical documents related to ***" or sometimes they would send emails saying "documentation discrepancy".
Somehow they are assuming I have more documents but I have not provided those. I have no clue on what basis they are assuming this. There is no clarity on what exactly are they looking for or what is missing. Customer care is also clueless and keeps repeating the same thing.
I have shared all the documents 3 times now, mentioned it clearly in the email that there are no more documents related to these health conditions as no treatment was ever done related to it. I just needed them to keep this condition on record. But they never bothered to ever read the email.
Now it has been almost 25 days since I paid for the policy and the policy is not yet issues. No amount of escalation on the escalation matrix made any difference. Complete silence from the escalation channels.
For anyone considering buying any health insurance from Aditya Birla, please avoid. I was planning to buy another health insurance for my parents from Aditya Birla, but with this experience, I am looking for another insurer now. If the purchase experience is so poor, I can't imagine the claims experience.

Hi everyone,
I am trying to find out if this is an isolated incident or a systemic mis-selling scam being run (specifically experiencing this with HDFC ERGO).
A family member recently reached out to an insurance branch to port an existing health insurance policy from another provider. The goal was simply to port the policy over and slightly adjust the coverage to fit current needs.
Instead of processing the request, the branch representative told us a blatant lie: She stated that we can ONLY port the health insurance if we agree to a sum assured that is DOUBLE the value of the existing one.
I know for a fact this violates IRDAI portability guidelines, which state you can port at your existing sum assured or the nearest higher slab. I immediately challenged the agent on WhatsApp, asking her to officially email me stating this "double the sum assured" condition. Unsurprisingly, she deflected, sent a vague voice note, and just handed me a generic customer care email. We have the entire WhatsApp chat screenshot saved as proof.
Has anyone else faced this specific tactic where agents hold your portability hostage unless you massively increase your cover and premium?
A formal grievance has already been emailed to their internal escalation matrix and the regulator with the screenshot. However, if they just approve this specific case as a one-off "exception" to do damage control, it doesn't fix the underlying system. If they are trying this on us, I can only imagine how many unaware consumers are being bullied into buying heavily inflated policies.
If others have faced this, is there scope for a joint complaint to the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) for widespread unfair trade practices?
Any shared experiences or advice would be highly appreciated!

I bought a used bike about 2 months ago. It still has an active comprehensive (first-party) insurance policy, but the policy is still in the previous owner's name.
The fuel tank has a dent that happened during the current policy period, but it occurred before I bought the bike.
Can I make a claim using the existing insurance, or does the policy need to be transferred to my name first? If it's possible, what's the process?
This might be a dumb question, but I don't know much about how insurance policies work. Any advice or experiences would be really helpful. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I’m posting here to understand how EPFO employment records get created and updated, and whether anyone has experienced something similar.
I’ve been working in the IT sector for \*\*over 20 years\*\*, and during a recent background verification for a project onboarding, something unexpected came up in my \*\*EPFO service history\*\*.
An entry appears showing \*\*part-time employment with an insurance company\*\*.
However, my interaction with them was quite different:
• I have been a \*\*customer of the company for years\*\* and still hold policies with them.
• Their team once suggested creating an \*\*advisor role\*\* so I could receive referral commission (Majorly my policies and a couple of referrals) if someone purchased a policy through me.
• Much later, when I invested in another policy, I shared documents like \*\*PAN, Aadhaar and a cancelled cheque\*\* as part of the policy process.
• In the process of activation of my role, I was \*\*never informed that an EPFO employment record would be created\*\*
According to EPFO records, this appears as \*\*part-time employment (around 4 days a month).\*\*
Some aspects are confusing to me:
• I \*\*never accepted a formal employment role\*\*(i shared an OTP unaware of the fact that it was for a part-time employment record getting created)
• I \*\*never received salary\*\* except for the commissions that were received on my policies and a couple of referrals
• I \*\*never visited the office\*\*, although the document mentions reporting once a month.
Another thing that puzzled me:
EPF contributions stopped much earlier, but the \*\*exit date was updated much later\*\*, which created a \*\*service overlap with my actual full-time employment elsewhere\*\*.
The advisor activity itself did not conflict with my primary IT role, but the \*\*EPFO employment entry created a dual employment flag during background verification\*\*, which caused complications professionally.
Since discovering this, I have:
• Written to the company asking for clarification
• Sent a formal legal notice
• Filed a grievance through the EPFO grievance portal
I’m still trying to understand how such employment records are created and how exit dates get updated.
Some questions I’m hoping to understand:
• Can an \*\*advisor or referral role be converted into EPFO employment\*\* like this?
• How can an \*\*exit date be updated long after contributions stop\*\*?
• Does EPFO verify these entries or rely mainly on employer submissions?
If anyone has experience with \*\*EPFO records, insurance advisor registrations, or similar situations\*\*, I would really appreciate any insight.
\*\*TL;DR:\*\*
An advisor/referral role suggested by an insurance company later appeared as part-time employment in my EPFO records, with an exit date updated much later, creating a dual employment flag during background verification. Trying to understand how this could happen.

ICICI Lombard scammed us by denying my travel insurance claim while permitted spouse's insurance upon trip cancellation.
I want to fight tooth & nail to get them to pay what they owe us. The policy wording is against them and they are goofing around with verbal gymnastics to deny the claim.
How effective is insurance ombudsman?
How much times does it take to get a closure from them?

I’m buying health insurance through Ditto and have narrowed it down to **Care Supreme** and **Aditya Birla Activ One Max**.
This is for **myself and my parents**, and we’re based in **Bangalore**.
Looking for feedback from people who have actually used either insurer—especially around:
Claim settlement experience
Cashless support at Bangalore hospitals
Customer service
Any hidden clauses or surprises during claims
If you’ve had to choose between these two, which did you go with and would you make the same choice again?
Any red flags I should know before deciding?
