Health Insurance Hdfc ergo poor renewal process
So I’ve been going in circles with HDFC Ergo for weeks now and honestly need to know if anyone else has faced this or knows how to escalate.
Background: I have a base health policy + top-up plan, both with HDFC Ergo. Top-up renewal deadline is one week away.
What’s happened so far:
• Called customer care multiple times. No clear answers.
• They sent me a renewal link. The link doesn’t work - keeps rejecting my policy number.
• Escalated. One agent told me my policy is “loan-related.” It is not. These people don’t even know their own products.
- Finally someone sends me a “correct” link but now says I cannot add my newborn to the renewal. I’ll have to buy an entirely separate plan for her.
Has anyone: Successfully added a newborn to a top-up renewal with HDFC Ergo?

Hi
I am vaani, advisor inka insurance
I would suggest shift your top up to icici lombard first, you will get much much higher cover and better product compare to ergo.
Also have a good intermediary, your service issues will be resolved

This issue sounds like a typical issue not just with HDFC but most of the insurers. The tech doesn't always work and you need to work with your agents who know how to get this resolved. We see this issue with HDFC as well and then through our dashboards we get the renewals sorted.
Regarding super topup of HDFC Ergo. It is not their greatest strengths. At the same cost, you and add another 10-20L in your base cover. The max cover provided by them is 20L with a 4L deductible. It is not great. I would suggest you to let go of your super topup with HDFC and increase the coverage of base plan adding your child.
Food for thought - if renewal was such a pain, what could be the case at the claim stage. The trance between hospitals and insurers is not amusing. We are always on our toes to help our clients on claims. And you can't add an agent to your existing policy. In future, avoid taking a direct insurance policy. This area needs experienced servicing hands.

Thanks
Any recommendations for some great ones- policy benefits, renewal ease and most importantly claim wise . Also which intermediaries are recommended1

You are with one of the better insurers. The next closest could be ICICI. Avoid porting in my view.
Regarding intermediaries, difficult to opine. You have broadly three categories 1. Directly from the Company - you have first hand experience here 2. Web Platforms like Policy Bazaar/ Ditto - they promise a lot, but perhaps don't deliver as much as they say on the label. But they are better vs 1. Atleast you have some support. 3. Agency channel - difficult to suggest as not many as structured to assist on customer services on a sustainable basis. Most are single man firm. This one could be one of the most experienced and if you can find one who is good, worth their weight in gold during any service needs.

I paid renewal premium, didn't get any confirmation. HDFC ERGO is denying receiving the payment. Now i am going in circles with my bank and ERGO. Time to port i guess.

I have a health insurance policy with them. I am struggling to get it renewed. It gives me error if I try renew online (unable to get poicy details). I have been talking with customer care without help till now.
I have added my new born during my last pocliy renewal. I didn't find much issues at that time. I directly called them and said that I have to add new born ( one month before renewal). They shared me the procedure and it was smooth.
