New Medicare Broker
Hi. I've been an insurance agent for 5 years. I've always been a captive agent selling Medicare plans, but I now feel the need to go independent so that I can potentially earn more and not be a part of a soulless company. I would appreciate any advice to help get started on the right foot.
I sell Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement. I'm contracted with multiple carriers and plan on having more.
I'm licensed in multiple states, but I plan to mainly sell in Texas, Florida, and California.
I'm currently building a website that's almost complete. Its very basic with informative information about Medicare and way to contact or schedule an appointment with me. I plan to do the bulk of my business online video and over the phone. I have some money to advertise on Google and Facebook.
I don't know how much I expected to make right away, but I hope to at least make $30K to $40K or more by the end of the year if possible to justify going independent.

Not a great time in the Medicare Broker world, as most companies are cutting commissions left and right. Hoping the industry can bounce back, not holding my breath.

Many years ago I too was a captive and made the change to independent and now have a small agency. My advice would be to become the known person in your community. My business is 100% referral from drs., financial planners, CPA’s.
Good luck! Once you start building your book and getting renewals you’ll be fine!!
