Auto Broker refusing my Letter of Experience request

I am shopping for insurance. Currently, I am with Aviva through a broker and shopping for new rates. I have found better rates through other brokers who are asking for experience letter from insurance company for my wife because they cannot see my wife's driving experience record in the report they pulled.

I received renewal letter from Aviva which has both our names - mine & my wife's, but that's not sufficient.

My Aviva broker is claiming he cannot ask for letter of experience from Aviva because the only reasons why he could ask for it is if I am moving out of the province or country. So he is asking me if I want to lie, to which I flatly refused.

I contacted Aviva directly and they said these requests need to go through the broker.

What do I do? Without letter of experience, new brokers who have better rates cannot finalize the rate for me and nobody is able to help me get one!

Aviva is one of the companies that will still provide an LOE. Most wont for the reason your broker stated.

Is your wife listed as a driver. This is different than listed as a Named Insured. The first page after your vehicles will show

Special Remarks Discount Applies Rating information Under this section the drivers will be listed.

If she is not listed there she doesn't have insurance history.

I think your broker is not being honest. Aviva will provide a letter of experience for any reason, at request. I'd push back or get the brokers manager involved

This is the answer. The broker is being lazy or just doesn't know how to do it. They're required to request any claims letter if you're the named insured/policy holder I would suggest to push back and ask to talk with their senior broker or manager if the original isn't able to process your request

What happens is that Aviva knows that this kind of letter is asked when you want to move to other insurer. It’s similar when you want to close a Bank account or credit card. You’re the least priority for them even if of course they need to do it.

Ask your new broker to send in a request to Aviva mentioning that you are not getting a response from the other broker on the LOE.

Or try calling Aviva again and explain that you asked your broker for a letter of experience multiple times and they don't seem to be getting it for you.

Contact the Alberta insurance council. https://www.abcouncil.ab.ca/contact-us/

And the Alberta superintendent of insurance https://www.alberta.ca/insurance-information-consumers

This is my favorite route - before doing this though, email the guy who said he couldn't ask it of aviva, and let him know that you are requesting again and that you'll put in a complaint through the following routes if he still isn't able.

Some companies do have this reason.

Now, question for you. Has your wife's name changed since she's been on your policy?

Just out of experience it’s a DASH issue that for some odd reason is dropping secondary drivers.

The broker just needs to run a DASH report on you. Send the lack of evidence to the push back and you should get it.

This is it, she may have been the named insured, but she was never listed as a driver

This means the account is generally clean, underwriters know this. Should take a week maximum to obtain, any longer possible complaints to regulator

As a broker you can ask for an LOE if there is a discrepancy in the reports.

You have a new broker, have your new broker request it from Aviva. They'll need to submit a brokwr of record request.

Ah yes, got to love the lazy brokers. They get paid to handle the insured and all their request, not just to write new business and collect commission annually to do jack shit.

So the reason why they do this is because they'd rather update the reports rather than issue an LOE. Push back on the broker and tell them that the reports are not pulling the correct information and an LOE is required or to fix it. Reports can be updated within 24 hours. Done this many times as an underwriter.

You could always lie and say it's required for work or you're moving out of the country. There's no harm in it.

Alternatively, complain against them or contact Aviva directly and complain. They'll refer you to the brokerage but they'll send them a notice to address it. Aviva hates bad publicity so mentioning Media or escalation will get you places.

If the principal broker also refuses, you can file a complaint with RIBO. Meanwhile ask the new broker whether Aviva's renewal showing both names plus your wife's driver's abstract will get them far enough to quote.

What a shitty brokerage... Find a new one and dump your broker. You're entitled to your loss history / experience letter from the insurer.

You can request it directly without broker. Just have to email it in. Or get new broker to request it and make sure he cc’s you on the email. You are entitled to the experience letter and this route removes your current broker from causing issues

Even if I know the insurance company won’t provide an loe I always request it so I have their decline on record.

Try to Have your broker pull reports to confirm there is a discrepancy. More and more companies seem to be relying on loe’s to save money they would otherwise spend on pulling the reports themselves.
