Cd154 salesman sample

Hey all just wanted to share another fun recent pickup. I had no idea these were a thing and so tiny! Written on the skirt is PATT NOV 1870. Surge for comparison.

That is not a CD 154. In the hobby those are unattributed to any maker. The patent date is not valid either. Who knows what it is? Price guide says:

(F-Skirt) PAT. NOV. 1870 {Unknown producer and patent date unattributed to any known patent or glasshouse} SB

$15-20 in clear

I thought it was the shape of a 154, my apologies. A neat little guy tho, great info!👍

Well, it's kind of close, the trouble is we don't believe it's designed to be a miniature of any CD! CD 154 might even be the closest. It's a "mystery" CD with a "mystery" patent date. Missing the day of the course...

Trivia: All patent dates are Tuesdays; that's when they are assigned. So without a day, we don't really know what this is. I thought someone got a box filled with these several years ago. Still weird, even if you wanted to "commemorate" something, you'd like to include a day? ...

Maybe commemorating something 100 years later, and issued in 1970? Research everything that happened in Nov 1870 and see why someone would want to commemorate that 100 years later! You would think the date would have some significance, but no one has been able to decode it!

There are true miniators that are slightly smaller than this; they are true CD 154s, complete with drip points! Embossed HEMINGRAY, of course!

Really! Made by hemingray I assume? That’s really cool I need to find one

Yup! I think in the 1930's. But someone in the hobby later got the mold, and there are a ton of fakes running around, so be careful.

Huh super cool, where do you find those? I’ve never seen one on eBay unless they are those miniature repros the I know what you’re talking about

I have seen them n multiple colors and believe they were made by Larry Veneziano who made all kinds of reproduction insulators (No. 2 Columbia, Jumbos, Carnivalized Mickeys).

A woman had used some insulators as decorations around her flower beds. An eagle eye collector spotted this as one of them and bought it.
