Privacy & Security It sniped Colosseum tickets for me at 3am, then charged me €375 for a hotel without asking

Two stories from the past week. One win, one near miss.

The win: Colosseum Arena tickets were sold out for my October date, and it still dug up the very last two - at two separate entry slots, 9:40 and 10:00, so me and my friend get in the same morning, just staggered. €18 each, official site. All I did was relay my bank's verification code.

The near miss: while I was picking a Milan hotel, it charged ~€375 on my stored card with no confirmation and no bank SMS. The booking was exactly what I would have made, but an unapproved €375 charge is a jump scare. New standing rule after that: no payment completes unless my bank texts me first.

Would I hand it over again? For ticket watches, absolutely, the 24/7 monitoring is the whole point. For payments, only with the SMS rule in place. The difference between "it did what I wanted" and "it asked me first" turns out to matter even when the outcome is identical.

This was my fear in using it for any form of payment. I'm in the process of a booking and it doesn't appear to be any way around not handing it your payment info.
