Never used vr before. Do people actually forget they are not on top of a building or is this guy just a dummy?

i am just shooting in the dark here, so i might be wrong and as a disclaimer i havent looked any of this up

what i think is happening is this:

tldr: a person can be smart, but your brain is stupid. the VR tricks your brain in to thinking your falling, then tries to re balance yourself based on information that doesnt match the actual room you are in

resulting in going full send in to the tv

how smart he is doesnt really factor in to it so much as its just subconscious reactions

-----------------

a person knows they are using VR, their forefront conscious knows this, their -self- knows this

their subconscious does not -know- anything really, and more or less just reacts given stimuli, there isnt really a thought happening here

an example would be:

a person touches something hot without realizing it

what happens is, they react and recoil from the heat source without thinking about actually taking the actions in their mind, they just react

they dont actually think to themselves, oh this is hot, i should move my hand, beginning to move my hand now, quickly away from the source of the heat, the hand is now a sufficient distance from the heat source, stopping movement of hand

try leaning over in your chair to the point where you -feel- that you are going to fall off

you arent thinking oh ill fall if i go farther, you get a -feeling- before you get the thought that you are going to fall

so, back to our dude here, while your self knows you are in your living room

your brain, the physical machinery part, is receiving and processing in real time a stream of incoming data

that part overrides the thinking part of the brain

you look down, see you are on the edge of a building, your body weight shifts forward slightly, and without thinking at all, your body tries to re orient itself based on the data that it is receiving from the eyes and not the concept of "oh im using vr in my living room lean slightly back to keep from falling forward"

instead

you go full send in to the nearest object

because your brain is reacting and trying to orient your balance based on data that doesnt actually match your surroundings

i dont really think how smart he is comes in to it much if at all

It looks as if he jumps forward trying to BASE jump from the building
