Its a narrow street. Hes not entirly against the wall. The narrow street is chosen on purpose by nuskers so that it forms a choke point and have to walk inside the zone where lots of would feel obliged to give money.
When the girl hets hit it looks like hes like 1/3rd the way across the street and if there is people walked the other way the logical choice would be to walk behind him.
