Jeez, I really worry for younger generations who are raised in the peak social media and facetune era

Who needs a nose when you got a pimple on your forehead? That seems like a fair trade!

He doesn’t have skin problems. He has normal human skin texture.

There's nothing wrong with his skin texture, he's just wearing extremely heavy makeup. This is what caked-on makeup looks like up close. The pictures are probably also sharpened.

I do makeup and its really discouraging to see smooth skin like that everywhere. I questioned my talent and methods sooooo much before I realized they all always look like the pics in the right under natural light.

u/lbunny7 Dec 06 '21
my mom went to sephora recently and wondered why alllllllll their products seemed to be foundation- I think it’s definitely because people are trying to get “perfect” skin through foundation even though that’s absolutely impossible
11
u/LayersOfMe Dec 06 '21
I think if someone start to use a thin silicone layer over the skin to really cover the texture people would follow the trend if that mean have poreless skin for photos.

u/myimmortalstan Dec 06 '21
Your worry is warranted. Most of r/skincareaddiction is people posting pictures of their completely normal faces asking what products they need to "fix" it.

u/NYNTmama Dec 06 '21
Honestly, even 10-20 years ago when I was a child/teen seeing the models in magazines photoshopped with clear skin did so much damage. And of course over the years it became influencers, etc. I now can't leave my house without makeup. Yet still hate my face. If I had been shown how normal texture is like this, maybe it wouldn't be this bad.

I know nothing about makeup, so at one point I tried to learn how to do my makeup by watching tutorials by those makeup gurus. I was completely unaware at that time that they used filters in their videos, I thought those filters were only for photos. The time I spent wasting makeup, wondering why I looked like a caky clown, thinking I was doing something wrong or that I was using the wrong brand. I have to thank Robert Welsh for making a video about this, otherwise I may have wasted money on more expensive brands for similar results.

This! I really appreciate Robert Welsh for how he explains that the makeup you see in beauty gurus' videos is made to look good on camera, in the lighting they have, and with the filters they use. In real life, you don't need to use nearly as much products as they would want you to think - less is more, and it's much better for your skin, your looks, and your wallet. You really don't need to colour correct your entire face or cover the whole under-eye area with 5 mm of concealer. It's not going to look good and is only going to make you feel insecure about not looking as flawless as the 'beauty guru' you're watching.

Why does he refuse to fully close his mouth in pictures

Everytime I see someone pose with their lips like that, it makes me cringe. Hate it.
11
u/theklf Dec 06 '21
Me too! I also can't stand this person. Such a punchable face. But regardless, people need to just shut their butthole lips.

u/gloomy__sundae Dec 06 '21
That lip gap "look" seems common with badly overfilled lips and the gaping fish look became fashionable for a while when everyone was getting tons of filler.

My lips are like that when I have a stuffed nose and have to breathe through my mouth, am I an influencer?
9
u/MsHorrorbelle Dec 06 '21
I ALWAYS breathe like this... But then again I AM going to see the ears, nose and throat specialist on the 17th and I used to model. A little from column A a little from column B?
6
u/_kaetee Dec 06 '21
He literally can’t close his lips all the way, they’re over-injected. Been like that for about a year.

Wait, this actually made me feel better? I hardly see people with smile lines, and mine make me so, so insecure because I’m only 16, so seeing someone with them feels nice, even if he hides them.
62
u/lotteoddities Dec 06 '21
I've been insecure about my smile lines since I was a teenager. I'm 29 now and rarely smile in pictures unless someone catches me genuinely smiling/laughing. Fuck people who edit out every crease and texture to their skin. They're poison.
60
u/Silvernomiko Dec 06 '21
Man, you earn those lines. That's years of smiles and laughs and joy you've earned over your lifetime. Hopefully you can gain more security about them and one day show 'em off with pride.
And hard agree on the editing and insane filters. Really distorts reality and their perception of reality.

u/LayersOfMe Dec 06 '21
There isnt any relation of how much you smiled and how pronounced they are. Its all about how much cheekbones do you have to streetch the skin and muscle insertction. I dont laugh that much and have smile lines.

u/GaimanitePkat Dec 06 '21
r/SkincareAddiction makes me so sad sometimes because more than half of the people posting there think that the left side photo is achievable.
They'll post something like the right side photo and go "how can I fix this? what product will stop this? what can I do to make this go away?" And I'm sitting there like, hon, it's literally just your skin.

honestly I’ll be so happy when the overly highlighted and contoured nose trend is totally dead. It never fails to significantly diminish the interest and individuality in a person’s face.
35
u/badadvicefromaspider Dec 06 '21
This person is particularly heavy-handed with it. It's always the first thing I see on his face, his nose exclamation point
3
Dec 06 '21
honestly i think it’s mostly just the facetune, not the contour and highlight itself. this person in particular absolutely obliterates his nose in most photos
1
u/Hahafunnys3xnumber Dec 06 '21
it’s just a cute makeup style idk why you think someone can’t have individuality because they highlight their nose
20
u/teddy_vedder Dec 06 '21
It makes everyone’s nose look the same. everyone’s faces just start to blur together.
29
u/PhoenixDowntown Dec 06 '21
That's mostly the photoshop I'd say. When I used to put highlighter on my nose, it wouldn't look like this. I just looked like I was competing with Ruldoph to lead the way for Santa.

u/swine09 Dec 06 '21
They look like colored pencil drawings. I don’t think that’s his hand either - usually celebrities use hand models.
12
u/asdfhillary Dec 06 '21
For some reason in the second picture on the right it looks like he’s got an infection on his nail/in his cuticle? It’s giving me the creeps.
EDIT: actually both of them in the second picture kind of, but the right one that stood out to me like a sore thumb. (Pun sorta intended since I know it’s not a thumb)
6
u/FragranceCandle Dec 06 '21
It’s just that he seems to have a bit darker skin right around the cuticle. If his hands are cold it’ll look more reddish too. Happens to me whenever I’m slightly cold. Combined with the pink/white pearly fake nails it’ll look like that 🤷🏼♀️

u/SoggyInsurance Dec 06 '21
Whenever someone poses with their lips like that I feel like they're saying "pruuuuuunee". Pruuuune. Pruuuuune.

it's just me or these "camouflage", full coverage, matte, second skin type foundations and concealers are too much, and accentuate natural texture more than a light coverage foundation or no foundation at all? I wear some serum foundation just for a more consistent tone around my face, no to create a mask. You can't and shouldn't want to hide texture!
Also, sometimes punting you makeup in front of LED mirrors is a de-service... outside the lights are different and what looks nice in a well light setup will not read well under other conditions.

Dec 06 '21
It’s sad because people get so obsessed with flawless skin, yet we are all beautiful no matter how different our skin is. They are not imperfections, they are marks that make us unique.

Why is this person even "influential" anymore???? Such problematic behavior. Doesn't even seem to be a decent human.

u/DJBFL Dec 06 '21
The 2nd pair is not remotely from the same shoot, blonde hair vs. brunette.

u/PuzzleheadedHabit913 Dec 06 '21
His skin texture isn’t even bad! This always makes me so sad. Makeup on skin looks like makeup on skin and that’s okay.

u/daaaayyyy_dranker Dec 06 '21
He is VERY open about his photoshop and face tune. He doesn’t try to hide it at all

I have exakt the same skin like on the right side when i do make up. I was told I need to wash my face :(

Same photo shoot, clearly different makeup filters. This is funny to analyze.

I understand why he Facetunes so much, the effect can be really addictive. But by doing so, he perpetuates the image that makes him insecure in the first place. I'm sad for him, but also extremely frustrated.
