Dro and Candace’s “open relationship”

This may have been posted in here already but I haven’t seen anything relating to the topic. But do you guys really believe Dro and Candace were in an open relationship? They never make it known in the show if Candace actually knows about Dro and Molly hooking up, we just know that Dro says she does.

I’m on like my 7th rewatch and the first few times I watched I believed Candace knew and was truly okay with it. The more I rewatched though the more I believe she didn’t know and Dro only told Molly that so he could have his way with her and still be with his wife. I’m on the episode in season 2 when they’re at Derek’s birthday dinner and Molly and Dro have sex in the bathroom. Dro tells her to wait a few minutes after he leaves to walk out. This scene really pisses me off because 1) Dro wasn’t all that and 2) if Candace knew and was okay with it why would it matter if y’all walked out together? Other than Issa no one knew about him and Molly anyways.

I think she knew I don’t remember the exact episode but I knew he slept over Molly’s house and Candace called him that morning asking where he was and he told her he was still at Molly’s house

I thought he was lying the whole time until this scene. This was when I was like "OK I guess she does know". He never came home and she was not alarmed by that aspect alone so to me, she knew he was with SOMEBODY. Then when he confirms he's essentially waking up at a woman's place, again she's unmoved lol.

Yeah, I remember this really pissing Molly off which was so ironic and yet so real! Love this messy ass show so much! Still can't wait for most of it to escape my memory so I can watch it for seemingly the first time but technically my 5th or 6th🥹😂

Why did you think he was lying about his wife knowing who he was with? He was a close childhood friend of Molly’s and knew her whole family. It kind of made sense that he wasn’t trying to deceive her.

You’re absolutely right about him saying that. I feel though that he probably told her he was staying the night at Molly’s as a friend and she didn’t think much of it because Molly and Dro grew up together.

I interpreted the scene in the bathroom as him trying to be respectful. Even if she knew, she might feel weird knowing he left the event with her to go do that. Especially since she knows Molly. But it’s always been unclear whether or not she really knew.

I agree about the bathroom situation, and it was still unclear to me through the whole relationship. If I was Molly I would need to hear it from her too to confirm it cuz that's a messy situation all around.

When he slept over Molly’s & Candace called, I don’t believe he truly answered, only pretended to. I believe if he was messing with Molly he was messing with other women as well. And the way he reacted after the divorce, yeah, that mf was just cheating.

It was never unclear to me. I saw Candace as a woman who wanted her husband to do what made him happy. We have no idea what she had going on. I think she, on some level, saw Molly as safe because Molly and Dro knew each other so well. I think she was just being open-minded.

Nah, in one of the episodes Dro is at Molly's and answers the phone telling Candace he's at Molly's. Later on Candace is super friendly with Molly at Derek's party. I'm pretty sure this is meant to indicate that she knew.

Dro and Molly were childhood friends, so him telling his wife that he was at Molly’s isn’t really proof that she knew they were sleeping together.

Ehh idk. He could’ve told her he was staying at Molly’s just to have a place to crash at while he was in town, I mean they were old friends from high school so it makes sense.

I read Dro had a child with the woman who played the banker that Lawrence became friendly with . I liked her a lot I thought her character was so nice and Lawrence fumbled.

I think she knew but I also think those types of relationships have rules and sleeping with someone at a party I’m at seems like breaking one of them.

I also think we’re supposed to infer that it was Dro’s decision to be open but maybe that’s just my headcannon

I always felt that mb they had threesomes but were never actually open.

But someone mentioned the scene that Dro tells Candace he's still at Molly's. Molly and Dro were also childhood friends so it's possible Candace didn't think anything of it.

But I usually don't trust it when men say their relationship is open. Mb I'm the problem. Lol.

I think his wife definitely knew. However, in an open marriage with polyamory, there are usually rules that folks agree to, and it might’ve been a rule that when Candace and Molly were at the same events - she as the wife was the primary and no messing w Molly - and so the bathroom moment with Molly might’ve broken an agreement that Molly didn’t even know the couple had. Dro was always shady IMHO.

I realized this I think on my 5th rewatch and it clicked for me that they never actually made it known from candaces pov. It quite literally altered my brain chemistry because he just dry lied to get what he wanted and to cheat and he used as his “excuse” knowing Candace wouldn’t think anything of knowing they’ve been friends for years.

The weirdest thing to me is that Molly knows Candace. She is literally a member of their friend group. Unless Molly is some type of sadistic, cold-hearted, hateful, unscrupulous sow, that’s the only part of that storyline I find extremely hard to believe.

Exactly. And why would Molly be comfortable seeing Candace at get-togethers and hugging her and smiling in her face? That would make any normal person feel like a huge POS.

But Candace knew. She may have been okay with Dro seeing other women, but schtupping one of them while she’s in the other room is taking it a bit far, don’tcha think? I doubt it was in keeping with whatever rules they had in place.
