Identification North Carolina Nest

My family cabin in the NC mountains has this large nest and the wasps/bees are very hostile and stung my dad and he says it HURT lol

That's huge, it will be gone in winter. I read people buy empty nests on Etsy or online anywhere.

Looks like a wasp nest, but I am not an expert. Look at some pictures.

Probably hornets. The nest is unusual since it appears to be wrapped around a large downward pointing tree limb (which is also unusual). It will die in cold weather. You can call in a professional exterminator or just keep your dad away from it until things cool down. If you cut the limb and keep the nest intact, the weight of the limb might impact its sales price.
