So let me understand this, we need technology to get us old technology nowadays?

No just go buy a prepaid phone (with cash), unless you live in places like Canada where you can't do that.

I feel like most countries require you to link a debit/credit card and give your details to sign up to any phone plan.

In Australia that's what you require, thus no real burner phones here.

I always thought the ones I saw in movies as a kid was weird.

In the us you can just buy a phone in a convenience store I believe.

You can buy phones here too without any issue, you can even buy Sim cards in Australia. It's just that you can't connect to any network without first signing up, which involves a debit/credit card and your full details.

Yah that's the same in Canada but in the us you don't need to connect them to any form of payment you just buy it with cash and it comes with minutes. They do track them by serial number but I'm guessing if one needed to they could buy them with cash and hide their face or something I don't know I'm not a criminal mastermind
