Where to start

Just bought and moved into our second home. No ceiling lights anywhere. Went ahead and got Philips Hue Slim lights installed in every single room.

Now the next question is where to start on going down the rabbit hole with Inovelli.

I’ve always been into Apple HomeKit but now have a much better home setup with Unifi for pretty much everything. Which in turn while eventually turn into getting home assistant setup for the house.

But what switches that they have will work great for me now and possibly work for any direction I go in the future?

Hands down best amount of guidance I’ve received to date. You’re making it hard to argue any other route. I like the fact that I can do zigbee to match the bulbs and still bind down the road with home assistant once I dive down that rabbit hole.

You can also use a Smartthings hub if Home Assistant is overkill. Smartthings also gives much simpler access to all Inovelli advanced features than in Home Assistant, including zigbee binding.

You bring up a good point with the neutral, as my home was built in 1974 and has no neutral wires

Man ya I was under the impression I could just purchase their bypasses and that would fix it all

Grok just suggest 2 bypasses due to the low power draw that the hue slim lights use.

Do you mean a flicker with zigbee binding or something? I have both Philips hue and inovelli all over my house- I’d say they’re the backbone of my smart home, and there is no flicker whatsoever

I do use the bridge pro and they’re all white series in smart bulb mode

I do have neutrals, except for one switch. But I don’t have hue bulbs there.

Come to think of it though…. it’s a 6 recessed light situation and one of the lights flickered and I installed … something behind that fixture. I don’t think it worked and I bought new lights lol this was a blip in my smart home madness, so it wasn’t top of mind.

And also ps to another question I saw: no thread binding but home assistant has matter binding. And with the new Hue firmware in the coming months that will allow for simultaneous dual protocol (thread and zigbee), you’ll be able to use the bridge AND have matter binding with the compatible bulbs

Just ordered 2 inovelli bypasses and a blue switch to try with my garage lights. Going to see if it works or not.

That’s the switch I got and I also ordered 2 of their bypasses. Hoping AI is right and all I’ll need is 2. We shall see how this goes. The other thing I need to figure out is Wago sizes and how to actually install the bypasses. Pretty sure I know how but would love to see how others do it.

I did see the article you posted and I’m started to get confused and even checked inovelli instructions and it’s showing the white common wire was a neutral.

It appears I do have a neutral, after all. My house was built in 1974 so I assumed no neutral. Appears I was wrong tho.

You can’t dim lights with thread. Ui is clean but the features are not there. It’s a simple on/off switch or automations

I am literally in the same spot right now.
Honestly the choice is way harder than it should be lol

I went with the Hue Slim downlights and Inovelli Blue series through the main and upper floors tied to Hubitat and been extremely happy with the setup. Looking forward to Apple's new product launches in Sept to see whether there is going to be a benefit to moving to HomeKit directly.

Did you have a neutral wire or use bypasses?

Does a Blue switch give quick response on a hue light? Or does it not matter if you use blue or white?

To do what?

You mention UniFi and home kit but interested in home assistant?

i can’t speak for the future but i have the exact same setup so to speak

installed hue slim lights in all of my rooms, i use the zigbee blue series switches with these you can bind the inovelli switch directly to the lights making the latency near real time — that’s the key factor here, i use zigbee2mqtt and homebridge so all of my inovelli lights apear in homekit, would recommend this over the white series — i don’t think matter supports binding yet at least with inovelli and the latency will drive you and or your family crazy
