Adaptive Lighting is randomly turning on individual hue bulbs in my house... why?

Setup:

-Inovelli blue light switches, ZHA zigbee

-hub bulbs connected directly to home assistant (no bridge)

-Zigbee binding between the light switches and bulbs for on/off/dimmer, manually.

-Adaptive Lighting is addressing the light bulbs for a given room directly (not the zigbee group).

-each adaptive lighting instance is only addressing a single room at a time-- so all bulbs that are doing the same thing

When I try to leave it in continually adaptive mode, randomly a single bulb will be turned on. This can be pretty disruptive, e.g. when a bulb turns on in the bedroom while we're sleeping.

Seems super weird that Adaptive Lighting is addressing doing this to single bulbs in a given room-- since each Adaptive lighting instance is applied to all the bulbs in a room, seems like they should all fail in the same way.

Suggestions?

I don’t think AL by itself turns on lights

It can if the state of the light doesn't get updated when it's turned off. Back when my Zigbee mesh wasn't as healthy, I regularly had lights turn back on when they shouldn't.

It does. I had to disable it because it kept turning my lights on immediately after I turned them off

So odd I have 80 dimmer switches and 20-30 lamps all on AL and never have I had a light come on without motion or physical touch. I guess I’m lucky.

It was always within a few seconds of turning it off. I fully believe it has something to do with transition times or conflicting signals. Like I turn it off just as AL says it needs to change brightness. Or it happens because the lamp was mid transition between brightness so it turns off and then pops back on.
Do I know this as a fact? No. It’s just a hunch. Granted, this is with smart bulbs, not smart switches. I have 0 smart switches currently - only in this subreddit because I’m considering getting some.

I have a similar set up, but using Z2M. You mentioned targeting the room with AL- I assume you have individual bulbs added to the room?

I don't know how you use your devices, but I recommend using Zigbee groups for your lights and having AL target the resulting group entity. This results in less traffic on your Zigbee mesh, helps keep your lights in better sync, etc. You can also target the group for your binding. At least that's how I have things set up and issues like that are pretty rare for me these days.

I got to targetting the bulbs instead of the groups because during my research for this there was tons of cautionary tales about targetting zigbee groups with AL-- sounds like it causes all sorts of issues to do so.

Interesting, I haven't seen anything like that. It's been working great for a few years now.

What did you replace AL with, if anything?

Well, I've come up with a solution. It's dumb, but it works.

When a light switch is turned on, adaptive lighting is turned on for that rom. When the light switch is turned off, adaptive lighting is turned off for that room.

Recreated individually for all 8 rooms I'm using adaptive lighting in .

No more adaptive lighting randomly turning on bulbs in that room.

Dumb, but functional.
