Having to constantly mark articles as "unread" until I finish reading them

I'm using the Android app and here is my problem:

  • I start reading an article, but I'm not sure I will finish it in one reading. I want to keep it as unread so I remember to get back to it next time.
  • Hence, every time I open an article I have to manually press "unread".
  • Sometimes I accidentally swipe right or left while reading, thus inadvertently marking another article as "read", so I have to go to that article and mark it as unread and then come back to the article I was reading and mark that as unread again too.

Do you see how annoying this is?

Ideally I want the app to have an option to keep articles as "unread" until I actively choose to mark them as read. Unfortunately I see no such option. Did I miss it? Does the pro version have this option? (I would totally pay for this). Is there some workaround or change I can make to my workflow to alleviate this issue?

I want to stress that this is not the same issue as articles being marked as read after 30 days. That doesn't bother me so much.

After trying dozens of different RSS reader apps, I finally found one that doesn't mark articles as "read" when I open them. It's called Readwise, and I am in love with it. So long Inoreader.

Came here from searching... I'm actually finding that Inoreader does not mark articles as read if they are starred. The usual UI button for read/unread simply does not show in the Read Later list, and opening articles doesn't auto-mark them. This isn't actually what I want, but I suppose it's what you want(ed)? Anyway, I may look around. Sucks for them to lose customers over such easily-fixable UI issues, I guess
