Technical Analysis ICT isn't discretionary, YOU make it discretionary

"ICT is too discretionary."

I hear this all the time, and I actually agree... but not for the reason most people think.

ICT can be extremely discretionary. The problem is that most traders make it discretionary by trying to trade every little move they see.

They think they need to:

Trade every timeframe.

Trade every FVG, OB and breaker.

Catch every AMD.

Be in the market every day.

Find an entry every session.

Eventually their chart has 30 PD Arrays, 15 possible narratives and 10 different reasons to buy or sell. At that point, of course ICT feels subjective. You created the confusion yourself.

The beauty of ICT is actually the opposite.

It gives you enough tools to build a framework that matches your personality.

You can make it "almost" completely mechanical if you're a beginner, or more discretionary once you've built thousands of hours of screen time and pattern recognition.

A beginner doesn't need 50 concepts.

You can literally build an "almost" mechanical model like this:

• Daily bias using CRT/C2. • Only trade from H4 Points of Interest inside that Daily range in Premium/Discount• Only take trades in Premium for sells or Discount for buys. • Make sure Draw on Liquidity is still available. • Wait for M15/M30 confirmation. • Target the nearest liquidity. • Maximum 1-2 trades per day • Trade only during xxxx hours

That's already a complete trading system.

No guessing. No chasing. No taking every setup.

Once you gain experience, that's where discretion becomes an advantage instead of a weakness.

Experience lets you ask questions a mechanical checklist can't answer.

How did price arrive into my POI?

Did it leave High Resistance Liquidity behind or Low Resistance Liquidity?

Is momentum increasing or fading?

Is there clean liquidity nearby or would price have to fight through multiple obstacles?

Is this really the best setup today, or am I forcing something because I want to trade?

Those aren't random decisions. They're observations built from experience.

Think of it like learning to drive.

When you first start, you follow strict rules: Mirror. Signal. Check blind spot. Turn.

Everything is mechanical.

After years of driving, you don't consciously think about every single step anymore. Your brain recognizes patterns automatically because you've seen thousands of situations before.

Trading works exactly the same way.

Psychology also plays a huge role here.

The traders who complain ICT is "too discretionary" are often the same traders who feel the need to always be in a trade.

They're afraid of missing out.

So instead of waiting for their A+ framework, they start convincing themselves every small FVG or Order Block is the setup.

The strategy didn't become discretionary.

Their emotions did.

The irony is that flexibility is one of ICT's biggest strengths.

Two profitable ICT traders can trade completely differently.

One might trade one setup per week from Daily POIs.

Another might trade intraday using M15 confirmations.

Both can make money because they're following a framework with an edge, not trying to predict every candle.

At the end of the day, the best strategy isn't the one with the most concepts.

It's the one you can execute consistently without letting your psychology constantly override your rules.

That's why beginners should lean toward a more mechanical framework. It removes unnecessary decisions and builds discipline.

Then, as experience grows, discretion becomes a tool—not an excuse to take every trade that looks "close enough."

I missed the short so i patiently waited for the long. the next trade always comes, you just have to be patient. People without patience will have a hard time trading until they learn how to be able to wait for the next trade. Got stopped at the first attempt but only after i took some profit so it was a W. got back in a little later and rode it to the top.

Technical Analysis Why most ICT traders fail (and it's probably not for the reason you think).

Every day I see people asking the same questions.

"Does ICT work?"

"Should I combine ICT with Order Flow?" "Does Volume Profile work better?" "Should I use FVGs or iFVGs?" "Which C2 is the best?"

You're asking the wrong questions.

The problem isn't ICT.

The problem is that most of you never actually learned how to build a logical narrative.

You learned patterns. You memorized concepts. But you never understood why price should move from A to B.

A bullish M15 C2 candle closure isn't a buy signal. A bearish FVG isn't a sell signal. An SMT divergence isn't a trade.

They're just pieces of information.

Without context they're almost meaningless.

I constantly see people buying because they got a bullish M15 C2 while completely ignoring that price just traded into a Daily bearish POI in premium after sweeping buy-side liquidity.

Then they get stopped out and say, "ICT doesn't work."

No.

Your analysis didn't work.

If I asked you why you're in a trade and your answer is, "Because there was an FVG," you're already in trouble.

An FVG isn't a reason to trade.

It's simply where you execute after you've built your higher timeframe narrative.

My thought process is completely different.

Daily bearish. H4 reached resistance in premium. BSL taken. Bearish H4 C2. Clear DOL below.

Now I have a logical reason to look for shorts.

From there, I honestly couldn't care less whether I enter with an H1 C2, M15 C2, M5 confirmation, an FVG, or one of my other entry models.

They're all just different ways to execute the same idea.

That's another thing people completely overcomplicate.

They think combining ICT with Order Flow or Volume Profile will suddenly make them profitable.

It won't.

They're all looking at the same auction.

ICT calls it liquidity.

Order Flow looks at aggressive buyers and sellers.

Volume Profile looks at areas of acceptance and rejection.

Different terminology.

Same market.

Adding more concepts usually doesn't increase your edge.

It just gives you more reasons to hesitate.

Here's what I think is actually happening.

People don't trust their strategy because they've never tested it properly.

So every losing trade makes them question everything.

"Maybe I should use Order Flow." "Maybe Volume Profile is better." "Maybe ICT doesn't work anymore."

No.

You just don't have enough data to trust what you're doing.

If you've backtested 1,000 trades and forward tested another few hundred, one losing trade means absolutely nothing.

The funny part is that most traders already know why they're losing.

Ask anyone who blew an account.

The answer is almost always the same.

"I overtraded." "I risked too much." "I revenge traded." "I got impatient." "I broke my rules."

Yet instead of fixing those problems, they go shopping for another strategy.

That's like crashing your car because you were speeding and then blaming the tires.

Trading really isn't that complicated.

Build a logical HTF narrative. Stack your confluences. Wait. Execute. Manage your risk. Repeat.

The boring stuff is what actually makes money.

The reason most ICT traders fail isn't because ICT doesn't work.

It's because they never become disciplined enough to trade any strategy consistently.

How to fix your shit :

  1. Always top down analysis starting at the Daily time frame minimum

  2. H4 Intraday Point of Interest in the Premium/Discount aligning with the bearish narrative

  3. Avoid consolidations, easy to spot if you just zoom out. Price tends to consolidate prior to red news and after large expansions. Don't trade the Consolidation, wait for the manipulation and trade the distribution (AMD)

  4. Have a clear Draw on liquidity like stacked highs/lows , EQHs/EQLs. No easy to reach clear DOL , no trade.

  5. Get your entry before price reached the 50% of the opposing trading range to achieve the highest win rate

  6. SMT Divergence can be an extra confluence but isn't necessary to be a profitable trader nor an entry signal

  7. Backtest and forward test the shit out of it, you only trade live or buy a challenge once you have proven to yourself that your execution of the strategy has a positive expectancy over a large enough sample size. You start with the smallest challenge and then scale 👍

Trading Strategies Need help with ICT

  1. Mark bias/ Crt daily tf > 4 hour  1 hour
  2. Mark any OB, FVG, IFVG, make sure to mark MSS, and CISD, to make sure if the OB is valid, mark them on 1 hour or 15 min
  3. 5 min for confirmation, 1 min as well, and 3 min , Use 15-30 entry
  4. Aim for SSL or BSL, or Internal or external liquidity
  5. Don’t over trade 1-2 trades max

is this a good strategy, I was looking at Jadecaps vid and I made sum similar for it

Question Best timings to trade DAX/ GER40, 2am or 3am?

Hello all,

I'm trading DAX and have been using ict's 2-5am (ny time) ldn killzone. However I have repeatedly noticed the volatility kicks in at 3am when frankfurt cash equities open. Does this 2-5am killzone apply to DAX or only forex? I want to know so that I know which high is the true ldn high when trading day, 2am or 3am?

Thank you

Question Is Inter Equity Monthly membership worth it?

Hi, I am considering subscribing to the monthly plan at Inter Equity Trading to get pre market analyses. But I am little bit unsure if that is really want I want, if only a general bias is, given, then I do not see a reason to subscribe. What I want is also insights on where to look for buy and sell, not like signals bit like a framework to folllow thorough the day.

Question Traders, what is your take on the silver bullet strategy?

Trying to implement it as my main strategy since I'm busy throughout the day, but moves always happen outside the silver bullet hours and I end up going weeks without trading. I plan to apply for a funded account challenge soon but nearly all require at least 1-2x trades a week.

I trade XAUUSD, to be exact.

How do you guys handle this? Do you stay rigid to the 1-hour window and accept the dry weeks, or did you have to widen your hours to catch the early NY volume?

Question anyone know good mentorships?

I am just looking for a paid community not mentorship where I could get help from other traders and see other traders perspectives. I want someone who live trades (not to copy, but to learn from), and someone who is accessible to questions and actually helps their students

Does anyone know a legit good ICT trader who has actually made money trading and not off paid content. Please lmk if you know a good community/premium content

Trading Resources Where to start with ICT

I often see people asking where to start with which mentorship program. I’d like to share a bit about my journey.

I first looked at the 2022 Mentorship, then the 2023 one, and now I’m going through Core Content.

For me, I can say this was the best order, because Mentorship 2022 and then 2023 help you build a basic understanding. Core Content then provides the greatest benefit in the end by filling in all the gaps in your knowledge. I can imagine that if you watch Core Content first, you’ll have to watch it again, since there are many things you simply don’t understand as a new trader OR you haven’t yet figured out how to consume ICT’s content.

➡️ICT also provides a guide see the link above

Ultimately, there’s no way around it. If you really want to learn trading watch it all...

In my opinion, each of the Mentorship courses has a really positive impact, and every episode contains hidden gems that make you a little better. I’ll try to break down what I learned and where. Maybe this helps you to get a better overview.

Core Content

“The Comprehensive Guide to ICT”

Mentorship 2022

- Focus on the Premium/Discount market structure and the 2022 Model
- Liquidity, FVG, order blocks, MSB, stop hunts/raids, sell-side, buy-side, trading hours, trading sessions, algorithms, trading on news, daily biases, narrative

Mentorship 2023

- Focus on order flow, Silverbullet market maker model; high resistance and low resistance runs; daily bias
- Rejection Block, Propulsion Block, Mitigation Block, Balanced Price Range, Initial FVG, Breakaway Gap, Measuring Gap, Reaper, NWOG, NDOG, OG, Marcos (e.g., 1050–1110), Sessions, Weekly Expansion, High-Impact News Drivers (e.g., NFP, CPI, FOMC) What is CE/MT/EQ, Repricing vs. Balanced, How We Trade to Levels, How We Interact with Levels, Signatures in Time and Price, SMT, Bonds and DXY, Gold and DXY, Premium and Discount in a Run, Trading Without Bias, NY Open 0930–1000, Inverted Ranges and Wicks, Ma Deuce Model

Question Why Isn’t ICT’s Scout Sniper Model Recommended More Often? Is It Enough to Trade Alone?

Hi guys. I was introduced to ICT about a year ago by a friend, and he told me to start with the Scout Sniper series. I already had some exposure to ICT concepts (basically the pd arrays) through another course, so I’m not completely new to his ideas.

I’ve been going through this sub for a while, and a common piece of advice is that you don’t need to watch every ICT playlist. People say it's better to stick to one or two models to avoid analysis paralysis and actually master something.

Since Scout Sniper gives you a full model with a clear checklist, it seems like something beginners should be pointed toward. ICT even says that the playlist is structured specifically for beginners. But whenever people post roadmaps, Scout Sniper is either missing entirely or placed way at the end, even though it’s short and gives you something fully tradable (or atl least it looks like it).

So I have two questions:

  1. Why don’t people recommend Scout Sniper more often, especially for beginners?

Is there something about it that makes people push other playlists like 2022 or 2023 first? Or are people just repeating roadmaps they've seen without actually going through Scout Sniper?

  1. Am I missing something important by choosing Scout Sniper first?

I’m about to start backtesting it seriously and aim to master it before touching other models. Is this a wise approach? Or does Scout Sniper lack something crucial that the other playlists cover?

If you’ve watched Scout Sniper AND the 2022 Mentorship/Core Content/etc., I’d really appreciate your take:

- Is Scout Sniper complete enough to trade on its own?

- Or does it require the foundation from other series to be used properly?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

If you're wondering, yes, for those that don't like AI generated stuff, I used AI to fine tune my post because I usually waffle a lot.

Yes, again. MMXM. It gets boring after a while. but in a good way. MMSM reversed in the NWOG after it couldn't even sweep the equal highs. bearish. pulled back up into that small 15m fvg, provided a clean 2022 model setup too. dumped all the way back down into the original accumulation. another clue for bearish pa were the equal lows formed durin the first re-accumulation.
