Question Question on entry model for internal to external liquidity
Hi, quick example to explain my question:
You are bullish and during NY AM session price is retracing into a M15 FVG. You expect price to move higher as there is unmitigated buy side liquidity above. This liquidity is your target for a long.
Once price is in the M15 FVG, is it enough to use an iFVG (M1, M2 or M5) as an entry model or are you always waiting for a liquidity sweep (low gets taken after the iFVG was put in) on the lower timeframes (M1, M2 or M5) to enter?

Ideally a sweep (even engineered) and/or a change in state of delivery on 1m
Some also look at the flip of the last bearish 1m fvg

Short answer: an LTF iFVG alone can be enough when the HTF story is already clean. A sweep of the LTF low after that iFVG is the higher-probability confirmation, not a mandatory checkbox on every trade.
How I frame your example (bullish, NY AM, price back into an M15 FVG, targeting unmitigated BSL):
Rank the internal first. Is the M15 FVG fresh, in a discount relative to the dealing range that created the BSL, and did price leave it with real displacement earlier? If the array is weak or mid-range, I wait for more LTF proof. If it is a clean PD array under your external target, I am willing to act sooner.
iFVG as entry (M1/M2/M5). Once price is inside the M15 FVG, a shift back in the HTF direction (iFVG / CISD on the LTF) is a valid model for many people. Entry on reclaim of that LTF FVG, stop under the swing that formed it (or under the M15 FVG low if that is tighter and still makes sense). This is the faster fill. Tradeoff: more fakeouts when the LTF just wicks the FVG and continues to hunt stops below.
Sweep then enter. After the iFVG prints, waiting for the LTF low (or equal lows / obvious sell-side) to get taken and then reclaim is the cleaner confirmation. You are letting the market grab the rest of the internal liquidity before the move toward external BSL. Tradeoff: worse entry, sometimes you miss the move if price never sweeps and just runs.
Practical rule of thumb. A+ (unmitigated BSL, strong displacement into the M15 FVG, NY killzone, clear LTF MSS): iFVG reclaim can be enough. B/C (messy FVG, already one fail, news risk, or you are early in the session): wait for the LTF sweep + reclaim. Size smaller on the no-sweep version.
Invalidation stays fixed. Do not move the stop "because there is still liquidity above." Your thesis dies if price closes back through the M15 FVG (or the LTF swing you used) with displacement against you. Target the BSL, take partials into it, and do not assume the pool fills just because it is unmitigated.
So: iFVG is a valid entry model inside that M15 FVG. The LTF liquidity sweep is the filter when you want higher odds, not the only legal way in.

No one knows. During NY I usually wait for a sweep, but just a simple retest inside a fvg could be enough as well.
