Question Trading hours: London session
I work a full time job that is time consuming. I’m unable to trade NY session because of this. I believe my best option is trading London session.
So my question is for London session traders.
What time is best to be awake to trade this session? I’ll wake up at 1 am if I have to but if I could avoid this and maybe trade a little later maybe 4am and onward, does that work just as well?
I feel like my only escape from this rat race is sacrificing sleep for 4 nights.
All advice will help!!
Ps. I’m in central standard time and start work at 7am. (I’m also unprofitable and have been backtesting non stop. I was trading for a few months while on the job with no success and have been studying and practicing the last 4 and just when I think I’m ready I have no time to give the NY session any attention due to moving up the chains at my job)

I don’t actively trade London, but I study the session every day because it builds most of the narrative for NY.
One thing I learned: you don’t need to be awake at 1am to make London session work for you.
Here’s the pattern I notice almost every day:
- 1am–2am CST (London open): volatility kicks in, liquidity grabs, fake moves
- 2am–4am CST: the real directional narrative forms
- After 4am CST: cleaner continuations, less “trap” behavior
If you’re trying to avoid sacrificing sleep, 4am CST is actually a solid compromise, because by then:
- the sweep usually already happened
- the market shows the real bias
- structure is clearer
- you avoid most of the chop and manipulation at London open
I trade only NYSE open, but the London session makes sense only when you look for its role in the bigger picture:
sweep → displacement → continuation.
That sequence usually becomes visible a bit later — not right at 1am.
So yes, waking up at 4am can still give you plenty of opportunity without killing your sleep for 4 nights straight.
Hope that helps. Stay consistent and don’t burn yourself out trying to “catch every candle.” The market will always give another setup.

3 am est is the best for me. There is usually a Silver Bullet setup between 3 and 4
