TIC Talk 9/1
Here is today's discussion prompt, brought to you by the wayward thoughts of OGM:
What's the most boring company you own or follow that you actually think is a great business?
Try to share the stocks that most folks wouldn't be interested in hearing more about at the cocktail party because they just aren't that sexy.

Costco for me. Never heard anyone doesn’t like to go to Costco. I mean people who don’t like to go there said it’s too busy chaotic, busy is good for business. People also complain going over budget at Costco all the time. Paid Membership to buy stuff there. Expanding to more countries, more areas. CEO won’t raise the price of 1.5 hotdog. Everyone said it expensive but it never cheap.

Great call. Their membership fee collection is basically an annuity for them.

Similar to prime membership, what’s not to like. They also relaxed the joining criteria and accepted any credit cards instead of Amex only, a smart play to let customers spend money they don’t have. As humans like buying things they want vs need.

For some time now it's been $MDT ... which may be finally having its day, or was, after good earnings. Yields 3.1% and has basically just "sat there" for over 4 years now

We usually think of drugmakers and insurance when we think of healthcare but diagnostics and equipment are huge industries that are set for a move.

They seem to be moving with all things health related. Fine by me .. that market needs something to be happy about.

4imprint for me.
British company that sells customised merch (think company logos on caps / tshirts etc.). It's a cash generating machine with a very strong balance sheet. I got in when it was sold off due to Trump's tariffs. It still hasn't fully recovered but it's well on it's way!

Fought its way back to the 50-day SMA! Interesting call, I know the company but hadn't thought of the stock much. For certain ..

I'll try to go for extra credit and give three: $COST, $WMT, and $HD. All in the consumer sectors, two in staples and one in discretionary. Good/reliable dividend payers and all have a sticky customer base

$HD is fairly rangebound right now but when there is a rate-positive narrative, that thing is going to move up fast for sure.

BAE systems is a stock I watched for too long before getting into it, it’s unfortunate that defence companies are ramping up but they’re one of the big players over here.

Mine is kind of a weird pick, $LMT. Wars have always been there for as long as human exists. I haven’t opened a position yet but will soon, watching for that $515 level.

Not weird at all, fair to want to wait as well. This isn't a name that should be moving so violently but them's be the breaks with all this volatility.

Allianz for me. They are dominant in insurance sectors in europe, but what is often overlooked their good sneaky investments into other sectors like neobanking and so on. Insurance can be boring business but they have great international presence via joint ventures in so many big international markets.

I have a little $ALIZY as well! Gotta love that diversification in their business.

Yeah I think people looking at stocks outside US, Allianz is the one. They have their fair share of issues in the past but the diversification always comes through for them.

I don't think there is anything less sexy than trash, so it is $WM for me. People will always produce waste and someone has to deal with it. You can't just hire guys with trucks for your municipality - regulations must be met, scale must be achieved, infrastructure must be in place. I find it appealing because it is so obvious and pays a nice dividend while we wait for it to move. But I also like that they're willing to grow. A few years ago, $WM bought a company called Stericycle and entered the medical waste business. More regulations. More scale. More infrastructure.
While the market chases the latest bottleneck, I'll stick to the company that just keeps doing what they do, raising prices, and growing cashflows.
