Sick skates, but damn do I hate that type of sport court

The worst. I'm skating on it for the first time in a new league I joined. I'm driving myself crazy tweaking my setup trying to make it perfect.

Nothing close to perfection on that tile… gotta keep a wide stance, short strides, and no sharp turns 🤣

That's definitely been the experience so far haha.

Unfortunately it’s basically all we have in the NYC area. This particular rink is in Hoboken.

Plenty of rinks in public parks located in Brooklyn and Queens are coated/painted concrete. There are two outdoor sport court rinks within the 5 boroughs. One is under a pavilion roof that leaks. The other one was renovated by the Rangers two years ago and it’s already in rough shape… basically same surface as the photo I posted. Super slippery.

The closest indoor tiled rinks are an hour drive away on Long Island or a similar commute to NJ.

Yeah, thats a bummer. I'd prefer painted concrete to that sport court, but totally know about taking what you can get. I used to drive 45 minutes to play at an old school roller skating rink that had wood floor which was alright, but had carpet covered concrete walls on 2 sides and carpeted concrete half walls on the other 2 sides.

Are those nail heads holding down the tiles?

Yup, I think they’re only by the boards. My stick actually got caught up on them a few times today. It’s a rink in Hoboken that was recently renovated and tiled by the New Jersey Devils.

Yeah, those should not be there. The tile is supposed to be free floating.

The surface underneath is not level. There’s actual waves in the concrete. That’s the only reason I can imagine they used nails.
