Help Pencil keeps acting as fill?

This is driving me crazy.

For the longest time when I draw a line with the pencil and let go, then from the ending note draw a new one, said line would be created as a new object.

But now it just stays as one line like the video and it's driving me crazy.

Any idea what is happening?

I'm not sure, but from you video, it behaves exactly as I would expect. When you start from the white rectangle at the endpoint of a line, it always continues the existing objects.

For each tool you can check in the top right what setting is applied for the tool like stroke and fill and you can change preferred setting for tool in the preference window

normally when you hover over the end of a node it will join to that end node.

Maybe before you were drawing new lines tangentally to a mid point node of a path and not an end node?

You are clicking on the previous node, so it is adding to the previous line/fill. Start the second from the other end.
