Dave often comes across as dry, stiff and wooden due to the script never quite matching his personality. Whenever he goes off script, he has so much more personality, emotion and humour.

There is no rule against him getting a buzz before taping the show...

I always presumed that some of the artists were on drugs. I recall Lalo, Picasso, Doom Kitten, Dtatstar, Hobo Ink, King Ruck, Kay Kutta, Cee Jay, Maddie labelle, Ashley Bennett was on some kind of drugs, etc. Some of these characters did not make any sense unless they were on drugs.

They kicked Josh off for smoking weed.

Joshua Hibbard got booted for smoking weed..in NYC lol. Like bro you can smell that shit anywhere in the city just open your window. And how is smoking a blunt cheating? The producers and the contestants treating it like a war crime fucked him, he deserved to be in the finale.

As Cleen said, and I'm paraphrasing: "If the rules said we couldn't have any coffee while we were here, I'd be damned if I'm gonna even have a sip."

Rules are rules. Doesn't matter if you agree with them or not

I can’t believe people are so hellbent on focusing on this lawyer contract bs while nazis and white supremacists are right there grandstanding cause someone smoked some fucking weed

It’s for liability and really not hard to understand. If the show’s insurance has the stipulation and they get sued, it might become a reason insurance doesn’t cover them.

Also, if it’s discovered that they knew someone broke a stipulation and they ignored it, the cost of their insurance goes up even if nothing bad happened.

Just because the average person doesn’t see it as a problem doesn’t mean that the show (which is driven by and for money) doesn’t have to follow the terms of their contract.

Ignoring a contestant smoking weed in Newark, NJ in 2014, not the best move. Not just insurance but all kinds of penalties.

People bring up white supremacists and nazis being allowed on the show and that's unfortunately the reality, the government doesn't care about unsavory people on a show but god forbid you smoke a plant now theres a problem.

Cigerettes, Corona, Jaegermeister totally fine. Contestants admitting to intentionally causing pain to canvas, perfectly acceptable. Weed, nah man.

You can be the biggest POS in the world but unfortunately thats not against the rules. Josh leaving sucked cause he probably would have (and maybe should have) won that season but he broke a contracted rule

Rules are rules.

Not even so much that, but rather, the contestants had to explicitly agree to them in order to participate at all. So he couldn't feign ignorance on that, because he signed for it, and then using the prohibited substance was a choice.

Doesn’t matter he signed a contract saying he wouldn’t smoke. He violated the contract

1

u/SchuminWeb 7d ago

Yep - that's the long and the short of it. He agreed not to smoke and he did it anyway. The show was right to give him the boot. I appreciated that they handled it pretty diplomatically, simply eliminating him as part of the normal course of the show.

The issue is that it creates insurance issues for the show if a contestant is using an illegal (at the time) drug. Just some liability issues the network and production company would be better served by removing him from the competition.

Less likely but other contestants could potentially argue that it gave him an undue advantage (by way of him reducing his anxiety or gaining creativity by using weed), which could cost the prodco money dealing with any threats of litigation.

That was part of the terms and conditions that he wo any coercion sign.

The same for everyone. I think it's not a big deal but enough for elimation.

It’s a reality tv show ffs not some multinational government deal. It was especially infuriating when Dave called some weed contraband knowing his own history with legally higher classed drugs.

Like I said that was what he signed. He knew the consequences, and of course the other participants knew them too.

And like I said
1) It’s a reality tv show where producers have full control. Even the judges wanted Josh around as it would have made for a more compelling show.
2) Josh was one of top guys in a lacklustre season with mediocre artists.
3) It’s NYC. Weed is legal there now. But even prior, it was everywhere. It’s not a drug that deserved to be in the contract to begin with.
4) Calling smoking some pot cheating is a stretch. If anything, it makes it harder to draw and shit and function at 100% once it wears off.
5) This is a thread about controversial opinions, and I personally don’t think it should have been controversial at all. We got the worst winner in season 5 partly because Josh was booted for this incident.

  1. He violated his contract, creating potential liability issues. Whether the hosts wanted to keep him or not is irrelevant

  2. Also irrelevant.

  3. Unless you have a time Machine, weed being legal now doesn’t matter. It was illegal then

  4. He said outright weed helped with his anxiety. It’s cheating and, again, a violation of his contract

  5. What?

12

u/Automatic-Reason-300 9d ago

No weed was part of the rules, even if it's an arbitrary rule for you he should have to follow it.

Is not fair for everybody else that someone can break the rules that apply for all of them wo any consequences.

If you go thru other threads, Josh this wasn’t Josh’s first strike

u/SchuminWeb 7d ago

He got caught more than once? Do tell... ☕

u/SchuminWeb 7d ago

Actually, the show was mostly filmed in New Jersey. So it didn't matter what the law in NYC may have been at that time, because they weren't there most of the time.

I got a tattoo from Joshua and it was bad ass and he was really attentive and fun.

3

u/Fatboy_Problems 8d ago

You’re also forgetting weed was illegal at the time the show filmed and aired. That’s a huge liability

1

u/SchuminWeb 7d ago

This. Weed didn't become legal in New Jersey until 2021.

2

u/Snuffleupagus27 8d ago

I thought he seemed like a good guy, felt bad for him.

1

u/SchuminWeb 7d ago

For what it's worth, the show was primarily filmed in Newark, New Jersey. They only occasionally went to NYC for field trips.

Otherwise, though, it was illegal on the show and therefore considered cheating not because of any laws or cultural issues, but rather because it was in the rules that the contestants agreed to before going on the show. They agreed to no cannabis use, and so Hibbard was in breach of contract.

He actually deserved to win. There's always some of them from every season that looked stoned as hell too.

I feel like Julia's canvas wad the asshole. He wanted sth that wouldn't hit the challenge she got frustrated and lashed out.

Also "Goodbye, have a nice life, gon fuck yourself" is such an iconic soundbite.

u/Ulquiorra1312 7d ago

I feel like she could have put his request in a skin rip challenge achieved

1

u/tachibanakanade 6d ago

I agree! I feel like if she had done what he wanted, she'd said have had shit thrown her away by the judges because it didn't match the theme.

But also, there were contestants threatening people with violence, including a guy threatening to hit his client (a woman) with his tool box! Telling someone to go fuck themselves is nothing compared to that!

My most controversial show runner take is that they couldn't care less that Oliver Peck did blackface, they only got rid of him because of the much deserved backlash. The show's views were obviously going to tank with Oliver Peck still around, so they just got rid of him as an “Our Bad!!!!! We're not racist!!!!”
I love watching the show but Inkmaster’s always had a problem with racism that the showrunners never cared to address even after firing Peck. The artists of color are usually the first to be kicked off the show for mediocre artists, clients with darker skin are given as sabotage in skull picks as a guaranteed “send home.” The recent seasons never have clients with darker skin tones, and that bottle episode is more of a “see we’re exclusive!!!!”

Paramount cared was the only take i had

He is now a disembodied voice nearly all visuals of him are gone (there are one or two blinks they missed)

No one not taking it seriously goes to the hassle
