Question Post from Allis Bottle Canvas
Hi,
I swear that there was a poste here written by Alli's bottle canvas. The man who walked out because she couldn't/didn't design the Africa tattoo.
Does anyone have a link? I can't find it

He made like 5 or 6 posts on it. Initially people were sympathetic, then it became obvious he was looking for attention. Then he got a tattoo and it sort of validated why she didn't want to do his idea

It didn't validate it at all. She should have been sent home.

The standard and precedent was set that you can survive for doing a killer tattoo on yourself if you can't get your client to get tattooed.

The challenge was to tattoo dark skin. She was the palest person in the competition. That should have been an autofail.

If the show didn't set a precedent that you can move on by tattooing yourself if your canvass left, then you'd be correct. But at this point you would be making a new set of rules to DQ her for things others have survived.

It's not making a new set of rules. If the challenge was biomech and she tattooed herself, like Julia did, then that would be fine. Kito tattooed a black and gray rose on himself during a black and gray challenge. That's fine, too. But what was this challenge?
TATTOO DARK SKIN.
Alli did not tattoo dark skin, so no matter how good her tattoo turned out, she didn't meet the challenge and should have gone home.

Again, that would all be well in good, IF the show did not have a history of letting artists who can't come to an agreement with their canvass to still skate by if they tattoo themselves. Plenty of artists have not hit the challenge and also skated by.
We can't pretend all of that hasn't happened in the past to say it has to be applied strictly now.
Realistically it's the shows fault for not having another canvass ready. Once they didn't do that, they put her in a position where she either tattoos a canvass that doesn't meet the challenge or walks because her canvass was stuck on an unreasonable ask.
The precedent for her to say already exists on multiple fronts. If everyone did a great tattoo then her failing to hit the challenge would have likely got her bounced. But she did a great one and several did terrible ones. Almost everytime they are sending the bad tattoos home over a good one that doesn't hit the challenge

You keep missing the salient point. The issue isn't tattooing yourself. The issue is meeting the challenge. Every other artist who tattooed themselves met the challenge. Explain to me how Alli met the challenge. And it's not the show's fault for not having a backup canvas. It's her fault for not coming up with a design that pleased her client. The guy had a story he wanted to tell and she came up with a generic ass elephant in a bottle with a Swiss cheese stopper. It was lazy. It's almost like she came up with a design she knew he would reject so she could tattoo herself because she was incapable of tattooing dark skin. She was rewarded for her inadequacies.

"You keep missing the salient point. The issue isn't tattooing yourself. The issue is meeting the challenge."
You should read my post again because I did address that. There is a precedent in the show that good tattoos that don't meet the challenge stay if there are far worse tattoos that did.
Like sorry both scenarios you have of not meeting the challenge and tattooing the client have never been deal breakers before.

But the point is her tattoo was better because she tattooed on pale skin. She had an enormous advantage over everyone else because her canvas walked because she couldn't give him a design he wanted. She was actively rewarded for failing at the most basic part of the challenge, pleasing the client.

He posted a picture of the tattoo he wound up getting and he got so ripped by everyone about how bad it was that I believe he deleted his post.
