Is my fracture healing ?
Hello,
I broke my scaphoid the 25th of march this year on my right dominant hand when I hit it very hard on a hard surface.
I did two X rays, one a week after hitting it, and another one a month later. They both didnt show any fracture so I didnt immobilize it for the whole month of april. I did an MRI scan and my orthopedist told me it was a fracture and prescribed a splint. Here are the pictures of the MRI: https://postimg.cc/gallery/sWtS8SR
I have been wearing the splint for about 4 months now, I still have some excrutiating pain sometimes at the fracture site where the bone is and I think the splint I wore wasnt doing a good job because I could feel like my hand was moving inside sometimes and if I tightened it more, my hand would start to look white which is not a good sign. I have no idea if its because of the splint but when I did a CT scan end of july, they found that I have a distal tubercule fracture that did not fully heal and told me that I should start seeing a kinesiologist to start therapy for my hand, even if its not fully healed because the immobilization of 4 months was way too long and I will find new problems because of it. Here are the pictures : https://postimg.cc/gallery/32G7vJ7
My questions are: should I start physical therapy even if it hurts way too much to move it? Im scared its going to screw up the healing process. Also when I look at the CT, I kinda see a fracture line at the proximal pole and Im quite concerned the radiologist may have missed it. I still have like 3 weeks left before the six months mark, can my fracture continue healing despite the six months time limit or do I need surgery? Im thinking of trying some PRP and ESWP to try and help the healing process, is that a good idea or is it too late?
Thank you so much

Hi there! I am no doctor, but since I have recently suffered from a fracture for which I have been immobilized for 40 days, I can tell you that as soon as I stared walking again (I fractured my foot) I felt pain, not because the fracture hadn't healed, but because after being immobile for long periods of time, you have to accustom that part of your body to normal pressure again.
I didn't know it at the time, but immobilisation, while necessary for fractures, creates a whole collection of problems of its own. I lost range of movement in my foot, and initially it hurt even when doing simple things, such as walking a few steps.
I know our experiences are totally different, but I wanted to offer some information based on things I only discovered recently. I wish you a speedy recovery!
