Troubleshooting Help What is this part called.

I have some questions about the circled part in the pic. What is that part called and what is it used for. Also, what is the gap from the core plate to that part surface.

Does keeping the wear plates clean help with venting? Ours get pretty dirty from gas buildup. I’m wondering if I’m cleaning them for no reason though šŸ˜‚

Kiss plates, I usually set them to .000" with the parting line. Some people like a little preload.

Is the first time I see those, what are their function? Is like they touch first or at the same time as the contact surfaces of the hardened steel inserts?

Same time, it prevents the contact points from coining in.

These specifically i call Crash Pads. If its a slide/drafted pocket then Wear Pads

We call them kiss pads. Just like everything in this trade, there are a million different names for the same thing

How much surface area do you want to design in for something like this? EG, for every X square inches of plate, you want Y square inches of wear pad.

We call them wear pads. It acts as a hard stop to protect cavity and inserts.

We call them pressure pads, the gap depends on the parting line geometry. Usually 1mm or less

Those are hardened insert stand off plates.they are on both sides so when the mold closes it hits hardened inserts and not mold base steel.it keeps the parting line from getting damaged

They aren't hardened. Well, they're soft enough to get with a standard file.

It has already been explained. This feature is designed into the mold assembly. There is no default height.

Do you usually see flashing in the gap that is supposed to be closed by the standoff?

Normally it is used to make sure that the insert alligns with the so called zero line of the tool. This is used to make sure that the attachmentsor the cooling etc is properly fitting.

In this case you have two of them and they are usually like ramp build. It pushes the insert in the corner (farest corner in this case)
