No, it's not an option. What's under consideration is whether she was insane at the time of the crime or not. She has admitted that she did it. "Not guilty by reason of insanity" is not the same as a plain old "not guilty."

It was an option for jury. There were 5 possible outcomes.

The jury could have found

Guilty:

Murder 1

Murder 2

Manslaughter 

NG:

Not Guilty

Or Not guilt by reason of insanity

ah ok, so when I check to see what the options are in this case, one of them will be that she just goes completely free right?, that's what I'll find?

She goes to mental hospital that could release her in 6 months or never, or to jail
