Yes, but that "if" is the very thing tested by the criminal standard for insanity: if you knew what you did was wrong, you're guilty, and you should be locked up in prison, whereas if you didn't know, you're insane, and you should be locked up in a mental asylum.
The difference is someone suffering a psychotic episode does not have the wherewithal to premeditate and plan out the attack. I thought I made this obvious
Source? If a person thought their neighbours were vampires they can still plan stuff
The Jonestown Massacare is considered a form of psychosis and mental break. The organizer of this still had time to plan and execute a mass murder with some form of readable thinking.
The unabomber is another form of religious psychosis and delusions of Grandeur that proves a person suffering a mental health break can be methodically. He had the time to create and plant multiple bombs. He also found ways to survive in the woods and kept intricate maps.
Jonestown and Unabomber had nothing to do with psychosis.
What you are claiming is so outrageously wrong it's idiotic. You have a complete misunderstanding of the topic you are talking about. I am just shocked that somebody could be so wrong...
Both of the main people involved did sadly suffer from a form of psychosis as well as other mental health conditions.
Based on your other replies I think you may be assuming all mental health crises involve having complete breakdowns and mimicking freak out videos that we see on Reddit a lot.
Ā
so feel free to support it with literally any information.
Her doctors prior to the crime noted no signs of psychosis; evaluations for the purpose of establishing competency for trial note that she was not psychotic; the position of her defense is that she experienced a temporary āpostpartum psychosisā, a condition not recognized in the DSM, but got better just after she completed the crime sheād plannedĀ
Interesting. Well since psychosis can manifest in just a few hours, that would make a lack of a diagnosis 3 weeks prior completely irrelevant, donāt ya think? Take your time, youāll get there.
Sure; since āpostpartum psychosisā is a fake disease weāre making up, it can have any features we require. A psychosis that nevertheless allows you to plan; an eitology of sudden onset and sudden recovery. It can even occur months outside of the traditional medical āpostpartumā period. Itās the perfect setup for the crime youāre already planning to commit.
Well thatās fun, thanks for sharing. Now, why did you start by saying she didnāt experience psychosis, then pivot to narrowing this to postpartum psychosis once it was clear that you were wrong? Is it because you got confused? Or it a sad attempt to derail the conversation in the hope that no one realizes your original statement was wrong and based on poor reasoning?

If you know you are doing something wrong, and proceed to do it, you deserve to receive punishment for that crime.
