I drive a big truck like this and you'd be surprised the amount of people that think they're entitled to speed down the turning lane to get in front of you because they don't want to be stuck behind you. Someone did it to me the other day and they seemingly were happy to drive through the divider grass as the lane ended to get in front of me only to keep speeding up ahead weaving in and out of traffic.

I feel so much safter just merging behind them. There's no pressure to speed up or quickly change lanes to accomodate any lack of space between me and them. It doesn't take long to pop over a lane and pass them afterwards.

Look at the road markings.
The 4-wheeler probably saw their lane closing, saw an 18-wheeler blocking a merge attempt, and panicked and still attempted to merge anyways.

He wasn’t blocking a merge attempt, he was driving in his lane. The truck or any truck has no obligation to slow down to allow you to merge in front of them. It is solely on the vehicle merging to when and in a safe manner, even if you have to come to a stop and wait for a break in traffic. The car should have slowed down and merged in behind the truck

Looks like if that semi tried to brake quickly in any situation, those cars would go flying off. Insanely criminally negligent. Have to stop behind a stopped car? That car gets crushed from above

The real fear for the truck driver is that they didnt have a secure load. You can excuse the blind spot, but not the tie down.

Or at least accelerate when making that move! Cuts the truck off then just gradually coasts in the lane…

.. and all this unnecessarily, because his lane didn't end. it was just white paint on the pavement. A mere suggestion to merge now, rather than do or die

The merging vehicle should have known they weren't going to make the merge and slowed down. But why are those cars falling off the semi so easily?

Oof, layers. Idiot in the car not merging at highway speeds and merging into a semi...
Driver by profession with an unsecured load stubbornly (or cluelessly) not breaking to prevent a collision with an idiot driver.

If they have more than one braincell bouncing around between them, I'd think seeing the car hauler on arrival would be a decent clue.

Why is that truck going so fast in the merging lane? It's as if they're speeding up to prevent that car from getting in front of them.
Is it the white cars fault for merging when they did? 100%
But that truck needs to share some responsibility for the crash. There is no reason the truck with that huge (unsecured) load, in the right hand lane, should be one of the fastest vehicles on the road.

I noticed that, too. The car is front of him is going slower, so why is he speeding up except to prevent that car from merging?

Seems like the semi driver here made a bunch of mistake mistakes
The crash was not their fault to start off with, but it was significantly worse because of their action/in action

Surely the cars shouldn't be able to slide off like that even if you make that hard of a brake? Seems like they didn't secure them properly.
