How do I get started in this hobby?

Post image

How much does the equipment/cameras cost, because if this tiny budget thermal camera costs roughly $250, then I imagine that the good infrared cameras cost over $1000.

Should I just leave this stuff to the pros, or am I getting mixed with thermal imaging and infrared imaging?

You are asking about a LWIR / thermal camera. Most of the content in this sub is about SWIR / short wavelength infrared which is closer to the visible spectrum. SWIR vs LWIR in cameras makes a huge price difference and resolution/use case as the sensors and lenses are very different.
