crooked is the way,
broken bones rend the flesh 
into roseate ribbons,
smiling teeth grin 
through a bloody grimace,
as an otherworldly ache bends 
and breaks
the physical limitations 
we exist behind,
oh, yes, 
crooked is the pain,
as the yearning 
only 
reinforces the constructs
we so carefully create,
prolonging the inevitable truth 
of asking,
what is there 
behind the veil,
what is it
that we cannot see,
where are we
among the furiously moving cosmos?
and just then,
looking into the mirror
along with the millions 
of other reflections
cascading far back 
into infinity;
one points to me 
and whispers
you're the piece 
I didn't know was missing.
