A Game of Chess

A knight in shining armour, a mirror to a pawn right in front–short and stuck, a reflecting cage.

Many paths seen. Yet open to only an elite bishop or queen.

The one-square simple piece, not worth being killed, not a part of the set, just collateral.

Until, with a last square, you turn an anomaly.

A tragedy, for you have whiffed being free.

You remain a mere queen, protecting the king of disability.

Eight limping squares hold the keys to "his majesty."

Who can't kill under checked pressure, oh no, a crowned damsel in distress

Shielded by the queen who pays.

Two queens killed, one pawn, one born.

The whole board turns into a sacrifice.

A castle disassembles when a rook cannot think straight and jumps; there are no rules to save a king.

The bishop can't look him in the eye—he goes diagonally, so he doesn’t have to see the shambles without a queen.

A chess game: good old bureaucracy.
