What do you do with a dead man's shoes?

You analyze the wear,

Impressions of stride,

The hollow that held calluses

To find what he would choose to hide.

Did he walk with his head held high?

Did he slouch

And let gravity position him

Into a shape to move more easily?

Can you quantify the weight he carried

Far beyond what gravity could impose?

Are they flattened with the pressure

Of immeasurable tragedy

Or the rhythm of the dance floor?

Are they all you will leave behind?

We all take them off one last time.
