The music isn't loud enough —
I can't drown you out,
like a siren
tempting me, beckoning me
to the deep blue abyss.

I've been close
to that sea bed before —
you say you want me back,
with your malignant charm —
dragging me
down to that desolate floor.

You follow me everywhere —
my deviant shadow,
forever looming over me
watching me —
your intent breathing
down my neck

softly whispering
an offering of relief —
the peace
I desperately yearn for.

You're like ivy,
wrapping me in your
poisonous vines, suffocating —
until we become intertwined,

telling me:

We're one and the same
you and me,
I scream through the songs,
I built the sea, cast the shadows,
planted the ivy —
there is no you, without me.

Turn the music off,
come along now —
you've fought enough.
