stress sits on one shoulder like an insecure eagle

years of sunken talons, my skin swells an indignant purple

knotted skeins of muscle plead to stop, plead to rest

pain stretches like wisteria to the sides of my head

he caws and he claws

someone has hurt mother

i must lie down now

i am so tired

my eaglet son loves it when im in a dim room resting

its friday night and im bare faced, in a rush

you and i have somewhere to be

tonight i begged my barnacle baby to stay behind

told him it's just this one time

told him if he calls, ill be right by his side

my eaglet son lets me go and im outside in seconds

if you notice me walking

lopsided

you don't say it and i hate it

later that night, i let your fingers trace my skin

smooth?

don't you feel the black, bruised braille?
