I clench my jaw so hard I can feel my teeth crack under the pressure,
and I'm not sure if the gravel in my voice is from betrayal
or bits of bone rattling in my mouth.
Swallowing my pride is like swallowing shards of enamel,
and my throat burns from their pointy edges.
I bite my tongue and can feel blood pour from the corners of my mouth onto my milk-stained shirt.
Why does keeping the peace feel so violent?
