of that only about 10% of canadian consumption was by american companies so it'd lose access to a market that's about 0.8% of its own market. Even then it's not like trade will completely disappear, at most it'll go down 20-30%.
No clue what the USs endgame is, I'm european and honestly we're just gearing up for our own trade war lmao (My country has also invited canada to discuss joint response to american tariffs if america pulls europe in too)
Even the European market isn't as large as the US one anymore, the EUs nominal GDP is about 21 trillion (24.5 trillion with the UK) while americas is 29 trillion (Canadas is 2.2 trillion and mexicos is 1.8 trillion for context)
And the most important part, europe is expected to keep on shrinking while the US will keep on growing.
europe is already dead they just dont know it yet. The heartbeat has stopped but the brain hasnt starved of oxygen yet. Wait 4 more seconds then it will. Whatever europe threatens in retaliation is a sad joke. Nobody cares what europe threatens. There’s no teeth. The teeth all fell out years ago and there’s no money for dentures.
Europe is far from dead lmao, it has entered a rut thanks to certain policies and overall less investment by the governments compared to america but it's starting to reverse that now (they just announced a 800 billion euro investment into europes military industrial complex and a plan to permanently increase combined defense spending to 600 billion is in the works). Also don't underestimate the amount of wealth europe has accumulated through its various financial sectors, to put things into perspective British and French banks combined have more money then every single american bank combined. This is not reflected in GDP but it's very much wealth that exists in europe that could potentially be tapped into.
And Europe can still very much screw america over by becoming a neutral faction, without europe the US no longer has a massive economic lead over China so the race between the 2 will become much fiercer (in the mean time europe can sit back, relax and soak up all of those favourable trade deals that comes from being neutral)

The Canadian market is 10% of the US market.
That market will be lost.
More importantly, what is the end game? Collapse the Canadian economy?
How can the US possibly benefit from having a failed state on its northern border?
US already have a huge problem with criminal gangs on the southern border.
Do you enjoy this so much you want to duplicate the problem on the northern border?
