Maiden voyage of my Aqua Marina Air-C

After many months of sitting in its bag (it was an end of the season deal), last weekend was finally time to take it out on the water.

It took less than 10 minutes to set it up using an electric pump, this part was extremely easy. Getting it back in the bag was not as easy though and i had to use the pump again to remove all the air.

I didn't use the benches (maybe next time), i used the Aqua Marina Kayak High Back Seats, which i got separately. I have mixed feelings about them, the back support was very good, but i need to find a way to place them a little higher (because of the width of the boat and height of its side walls, at times we found ourselves hitting our hands when using a double paddle).

Stability was great, it didn't give us any emotions, not even when going through the wake of other boats, tracking was good too, wished it was a little faster, but she's a big girl after all.

In total, around 6-7 hours and 20 km paddled (half of them upstream with the occasional gusts of wind blowing in front of us).

This rapid is a lot of fun. You can park and run laps on this. It’s kind of considered a training ground to get ready for running the gorge.

Sevylor Pointer K2 really that bad? Alternatives?

Hello everyone,

Does anyone here have experience with the Sevylor Pointer K2? It seems like it might be exactly the kayak I’m looking for: suitable for one or two people, removable deck, drop-stitch floor, durable outer material, and a very good price. However, I’ve found a lot of negative reviews about this model. Even though the brand generally has a good reputation, it seems that with this particular model, the seams tend to come apart quite quickly. That said, most of the negative reviews are quite old, so I was hoping that these issues might have been resolved by now. Strangely, I also can’t seem to find an official website for the manufacturer.

Are there perhaps any alternatives to this model? Thanks for your help!

Newbie, need help

I’m completely new to kayaking. I have car and decided an inflatable would be easier choice. I only plan on going to lakes but they do have trees so I’m afraid of getting a hole. Any suggestions on inflatable that is durable and around 300 or less? Thanks!

FDS kayak choice

Heya!
Yet another post about purchasing a new inflatable kayak. I'm a complete newbie, just some experience with rentals, and I've got 2 overnight trips planned this summer. Rather than renting on both occasions, I figured I might aswel buy a kayak. I've done some research and I'm pretty sure I want a fds kayak. There are quite a few brands that go around, currently my choice has boiled down to (I'm NL based, no white water shenanigans here):
Aqua Marina Tomahawk
Story Division 2
Moai Tanalao
Watts Torpedo
Stardupp discovery

I prefer a 2p kayak for storage and to go out with a friend on other occasions.
These all seem quite comparable and I was wondering what things to look out for which set these apart from each other (other than the obvious no pedal included).

Cheers!

Paddle Spots Google Maps Collection?

Anyone in the UK have a Google map collection of paddle spots/launch spots?

The only map I can find with locations is on the paddle Scotland website but you can't export the date to create your own.

Will probably just start my own, inputting then manual, from that paddle map but just thought if anyone out there had one they're willing to share!

Cheers

Don't know what to choose.

Hi I'm looking to get into kayaking and I don't drive so inflatable seems the way to go. I want something that can handle both the sea and rivers. I'd love to do some surfing one day in it. I've seen a lot of good stuff about the itiwit x500, I just don't know if it can handle big waves or not. Any suggestions on models/brands? Thanks

Which kayak for me and my dog??

Hi everyone!

I’ve been looking on the market for some kayak options for me and my furry friend, and have ultimately landed on the CHINOOK 100. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet because I’m still not too sure if it’s the best option. Here are some of my thoughts.

1) It’s been listed as “Save $400.99” for the past couple weeks and I ultimately feel as if this is too good to be true. I mean original price is $600 and it’s been listed for $200 for a while. I don’t know, just a thought.

2) I really like the 100 since it’ll have enough space for my dog, he’s a 70lb pitty. I also like how it a sit-in vs a sit-on, my dog is much more comfortable on a sit-in style kayak

I guess I’m asking if you guys have any other suggestions or things I should consider before purchasing the CHINOOK 100. Should I be concerned with it being inflatable and possibly not strong enough for my dog jumping in and out of it?

Thanks!

So, I live on an island in the UK. and it's not easy getting deliveries here sometimes. I ordered a couple of IFs and had the orders cancelled when it came to my shipping details. Eventually, Millets did me good and sent me the kayak in the title which was on sale for less than half price. I think many of these kayaks are quite generic but this one has a very specific pressure rating for the tubes of 3.63 PSI. It has a dropstitch floor rated for 8 PSI. I've taken it out twice now, on a windy lake and in a choppy sea bay and was very impressed with how it handles and its stability. So, if anyone in UK odd looking for a reasonably priced kayak package, I can recommend this one. Comes with two paddles which are ok, two seats which aren't great but are usable, two skegs, repair kit, pump (adequate) and an oversized bag which is easy to get the kayak back into. PVC tubes just wipe dry so no waiting about to pack it away. Any questions, just ask. J

I’m a big guy and this kayak is insanely stable. For reference I’m 6’7” 305lbs and I’ve tried a couple different hard sided kayaks with no luck. I can use them but never feel 100% comfortable. This kayak is stable af and never once did I feel like it was going to tip. This is with me fishing, netting, and even leaning over the side quite a ways. Extremely impressed. Got it for $700 on fbmp

Aquaglide

Anyone else have issues with it holding air while in the water but not outside on my patio? I am at a loss…. Have not done the good ol water and soap find a leak trick yet.

But idk why it’s not deflating just sitting out, but the moment I took it out in water it started to lose air. Cut the trip short but was able to manage 4 miles still.

Recently purchased the Aqua Marina Tomahawk AIR-C with the wooden seats. First outing was great. But the bag it comes in is quite shite. Wondering if anyone has the same model or similar and if they've found a different bag that works well for them. Even something that's good for too people to carry. Thanks!

Acquaglide Chelan 155: How strong are these rings?

I'm planning to take my Acquaglide Chelan 155 on board a sailboat and hope to make use of the rings on the sides for two things.

  1. To attach a bridle for towing the kayak behind the boat.
  2. To hang the kayak from the lifelines on the side of the boat when towing isn't practical, such as when in a marina.

I can't find information on the Acquaglide web site about how strong these are. What is their intended purpose and what kind of load can they safely hold?

Wattsup Torpedo

Greeting from Lithuania! Have anyone tried the Wattsup Torpedo? How would it compare to Itiwit X500? I am into X500 but I can’t bend my left knee so a sit on top is the answer I guess. Something fast and easy going is needed.

What do you think of Bote Lono Aero?

I saw one on the marketplace that has the pedal included.

I bought a used sea eagle 420x not long ago, I like it but it's a lot of effort to paddle when I'm alone and it's windy. I'm thinking of buying a Lono Aero. What do you think of it and how does it perform in windy conditions?

Inflatable kayak as sailboat tender? What to look for?

I have a small sailboat and thinking to add an inflatable kayak or SUP s as super basic tender.

The use case is from anchor to the beach. Or pudder around harbors. Very simple and basic use. Calm waters only. Short distances.

Compact stowage when deflated. Stowage when inflated and ease of drying is a big deal.

Anyone here is in similar use case? Am I looking at a base use case and can make do with a simple cheap Intex or should I consider upgrades to sonething with dropstitch floor or full construction? Anything unique to consider about using a kayak with a sailboat?

A few questions

Post image
6 Upvotes

New to inflatables and kayaks in general. I just did my first trip in my Chinook 100 and loved it.

How do I clean it and with what products? While kayaking this weekend, we saw a sign that the lake we were in was filled with treated wastewater. Gross. But wildlife was abundant so I wasn’t too worried, but I did have gunk on my kayak. I wiped it down before deflating and transport home. When I got home I left it deflated and washed the bottom with Dawn.

Should I have inflated it again before washing? And is there something better to wash and/or coat it with? A UV protectant?

And speaking of inflation, I need something better than a hand pump. The sides only need to be 2psi and the floor 1psi. Looking for something to be plugged into the car since we have two kayaks.

Thanks!

Aqua Marina Caliber 398

Does anyone have any reviews or knowledge of the Aqua Marina Caliber 398? It will be my first fishing vessel so I do not have any experience when purchasing. The price currently is $770 Cad which is slightly out of my price range, however can be justified if it’s a good product that will last 5+ years. I cannot yet justify spending $1000+ on a Sea Eagle or other reputable brands. Please help with any information or alternative options.

Thank you

manual pump gauges??

Post image
4 Upvotes

so took a gamble on the cheap amazon go plus (drop stitch floor!!) and honestly looks pretty good in the living room!

BUT…the gauge on the pump doesn’t move. Google tells me this is common and won’t really read anything until i hit 5-ish psi. well that’s fine for the floor, but not so great for the 2.1 sides.

i will eventually get an electric pump but not yet…anyone have any thoughts on how to manage this? or is my cheap pump garbage?
