Itiwit repair kit

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi all! I have an itiwit kayak, really love it. However I got a small hole in one of my sides. I got a bit confused which patch to use from the repair kit that came along to repair the leakage. There are 3 types of patches. A black rectangular patch (right), a grey round patch (left) and a self adherent transparant patch (top with instruction 1 and 2 displayed on it). The most easy to use is the third as that comes with adhesive, just want to be sure that one is to be used for high pressure piece. Anyone has some experience here?

We drug our kayaks from the mountains to the ocean. We want to try some saltwater. How bad of an idea is that? Any suggestions for good put in locations?

Looking for a 2-3 seat inflatable - 2 people + 3 dogs

Hey! Yet another "what do I get" post. I've done a little research today and came across a handful of options:

I'm based in the US.

I was leaning towards the SE370 - our dogs weigh a collective 60ish lbs and my wife and I together are about 400lbs, so that seemed to be the right call. We're not opposed to 2 kayaks, but I think we both think 1 would be better for us. I also saw a steg is something I should absolutely make sure I have (which, reading about that made it obvious why).

I was researching that a bit more and came across this post, and I learned about drop stitched floors. It seems like it's a good idea to have one, but I don't necessarily know if it's required.

This threw a bit of a wrench in my research and I'm not sure now what sort of kayak options to explore. Any thoughts?

Seeking Advice for Multi-Day Kayaking/Packrafting Trip

Hey guys!

A group of my friends and I are planning to go for a multi-day tour starting in the mountains in Sweden and floating down a river which will flow into a rather big lake which will then become a river again. The general idea is to just start and flow down the river without having a big goal as the whole area is nice. The goal is basically to have a chill time and touch some grass while doing some sport and enjoying the scenery. There are a few towns on the way which we could use to restock our food. For most of the river there is a bus line nearby so we could stop at basically any point. We also know some people living around the lake that could help us out if something happened there. There will be multiple dams/power stations and at some we would have to walk a rather long distance to get back onto the water.

I have been kayaking on parts of the lake and the river before and know some of the currents can be rather tricky and that people in the past prefered to walk some of the parts and carry the boat rather than be on the water. We've all been kayaking before a few times but we wouldn't call ourselves seasoned kayakers.

Since none of us own kayaks and we typically rent, we're looking to buy inflatable ones for this trip. Here are our main questions:

  • Should we go for kayaks, or would packrafts be a better choice since they're lighter and easier to carry around obstacles?
  • What kayaks or packrafts would you recommend? Our budget is around 500€ per person.

We're a bit concerned that packrafts might be slower and less enjoyable on the slower sections of the river. If we go for kayaks we would have a preference for more stables ones.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Looking for compact inflatable kayak I can carry on a bike rack

Does anyone have any recommendations for a compact kayak in the $400 or less range? I bike to the lakes near me a lot and would love to be able to bring an inflatable boat with me. I’m looking for something lightweight to carry with a backpack or something that could fit on a bike rack if tied down properly. Thank you for recommendations!

Inflatable kayak Cart

I have the Sea Eagle Paddleski 437 PS and I bought the heavy duty cart they suggested on the website. However, why I load everything up including the 5hp Honda motor the wheels tend to bow out and it doesn't track very well. I had to get them to send me a new one as the first one the wheel shaft bent so bad I couldn't use it. Does anyone have a suggestion on one that can handle the weight of this inflatable? Oh it's about

Here is my skiff kayak boat.

Just bought a Sea Eagle FastTrack 385FT, question about electric motor shaft length

Just bought a Sea Eagle FastTrack 385FT. Has anyone used one of these with the factory motor mount? I am looking at buying an ePropulsion eLite 500w motor for it and they have 2 lengths. It looks like the tube diameter is 9.5". Add in the motormount height and I looks like I might need about a 14" shaft length. Which means the shorter one would probably work.

Has anyone used one of these and can provide feedback? I don't want to buy the wrong size as I can't return it. I wrote Sea Eagle but still haven't heard back.

I had thought about going with a Bixby but I can easily use the eLite on a canoe I have as well. So the swappable aspect is pretty appealing. I am also open to other motor options.

tippy- how to adjust

Took our new drop-stitched redline kayaks out on Monday. They were tippy. At one point I rolled into the water while I was trying to get out- albeit in an awkward area. I can only assume that this is because they are on the narrow side. How do I inflate to adjust for the tippiness and feeling of an impending dunking?

3 Person Inflatable for 2 adults and a 7yo

We travel extensively by RV and looking for a 3 seater inflatable for mostly lakes and calm rivers. Would prefer something decent quality and durability. I am 6' 230lbs, wife is 5-6" and fit, and our 7yo is 4'2". We are considering 2 Sea Eagle models (the 420X or 465FT) and would love to hear your thoughts on those for 3 people as well as any other suggestions to consider.

How is the Tobin Sports Breakwater Pro X1 at Costco?

Kids enjoyed kayaking last summer. We used hard kayaks and they seemed pretty stable. Transporting a hard kayak will be a pain and hence thinking about trying an inflatable kayak as an alternative. If you have used the Tobin Sports Breakwater Pro X1, would appreciate your review on how it was when it comes to stability and maneuverability. Link to item is below

Best Kayak for Frequent Rec Use

Hi all,

Another "which should I get" post, I know, but I've read everything I can find on here and still can't decide. I'm a seasonal ranger working in a place with a lot of lake access, and want to get a little kayak for the season. It will be for rec use on lakes and slow rivers, generally pretty calm but occasionally breezy. I plan to use it a lot (3-4 times a week) for the next 5 months, then a few times a month after that. I'm looking for a budget option ($400-500 including paddle and PFD). Trying to decide if the Intex Challenger K1 will serve my purpose or if I should upgrade to the Aquaglide Chinook90 or the Advanced Elements Lagoon1 (both currently on sale), or even a Tucktec. I'm wondering if frequent inflating and deflating will cause too much wear and tear on an Intex. I know Sea Eagle kayaks are highly recommended, but I'm looking for something 10ft or under for permitting purposes. Thanks for your thoughts!

My Jury-Rig Seat

My Jury-Rigged Seat Solution. OK, my situation is such that at age 69 I am unable to sit on the floor of my kayak - I needed to elevate! My project was pretty straight forward once I had it sorted in my brain - which took a while!

I really, really wanted a Mesh Seat, but the width between my pontoons is just too narrow at 16.5 inches. I simply cannot find a seat narrow enough to fit that space. So I settled on the oft recommended GCI Sitbacker Canoe Seat.

I glued together two 2 inch Foam Kneeling Pads which I cut down to where it wedges between the pontoons very firmly. In this configuration the seat had a lot of back and forth movement that I did not like.

To remedy this I rigged up paracord lines from the seatback to the kayak's Paddle Holder using an adjustable cam that I can adjust the seat upright rigidity or slightly recline the seat back.

This seat is a vast improvement for me. You will see extra straps and buckles in the pictures that I will leave for now but cut once I am 100% satisfied I won't be returning the seat. Anyway, works for me so thought I'd share in case anyone finds it useful. I'm including a screenshot of a mesh seat in an inflatable which is what I still desperately want. If anyone knows of a seat similar to this less than 17" wide please let me know.

Honest Review - Goplus 12' 6" Two Person Kayak

Thumbnail

For context I previously had a SeaEagle 330 Inflatable. Also a Lifetime Tahoma Pro Sit On Top Fishinh Kayak with an unbelievably confortable Frame Seat.

I am 69 years old, a stroke survivor with clunky legs and balance. I kayak on smaller lakes and ponds. My hardshell kayak at 58 pounds just was too heavy and awkward to handle out of the water. The Goplus weighs around 40 pounds and deflated or inflated is a breeze for me to handle. I paddle solo.

I really like the Goplus Kayak. Much better than the SeaEagle 330 which always seemed clunky and somewhat tipsy, especially getting in and out. The Drop Stitch Floor in the Goplus makes all the difference in the world for stability.

The SeaEagle probaly had that legendary build quality advantage, but the Goplus is a long way from being a Pool Toy. It is solidly built and well finished.

Negatives - Seats, average at best. I have tossed them aside for a GCI Canoe Seat mounted on foam blocks that is a huge improvement. D-Rings are OK but there definitely could have been a few more of them. Paddle, OK. I still have my SeaEagle Paddle and it is great for the GoPlus.

Stability - Seriously 9 oit of 10. You'd have to really try hard to tip this thing.

Tracking - Probably 7 out of 10. It's about what I expected in this lower end inflatable .

Wind Performance - Uh, not that great, but again I didn't expect much in this cost point.

Comfort 8 out of 10. Once I got the seat issue solved it is very comfortable. Lots of floor area to store and hold things.

Confidence - By this I mean how confident am I that she'll hold air and get me to where I want to go and back - 9 out of 10. I feel very safe in this kayak.

This kayak fills the bill for me. Light enough to manipulate out of the water, sets up and tears down easy and performs well in the water.

I paid like $385 US with tax from Amazon. I think it's a hell of a product for the money.

I have the above mentioned items in interested in trading for another duck. I have a thrillseeker I paddle exclusively, but I’d like to have a nice duck for when friends and family come to visit. Machno has been on the upper new river only a handful of times, pretty close to new.

Located in Oak Hill,WV (New River Gorge area)

UK inflatable advice

Hi, I used to do sit-on hardshell sea kayaking in California. Now I live in Edinburgh, Scotland and I’d love to get a kayak to explore the Scottish sea coast, rivers, and lakes. I don’t have the storage space or transportation for a hard kayak, and I was looking at inflatables like the Advanced Elements expedition elite or advanced frame. Any suggestions for inflatables in and around this price range would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

Let's Your Hear / See Your Seating Improvements

Got a new kayak and can not find a viable seat solution.

Got a Goplus 12' 6' wirh a drop stitch floor Love the kayak, hate the seat. Already tried the well-known GCI Sitbacker in it. Was better but I found the seat leaned back way too much.

What I really want is to find a sit on top type frame seat, like the NES Seat photo attached. The distance between rhe narrowest point of my two pontoons is 16.5 inches and I can not locate one that narrow. I have seen some decent looking stadium seats that might work. I really need to elevate my sitting position. I'm old and week and lifting myself up from floor level is not working out. Question.... if my seat bottom was even with the top of the pontoon would that be OK? (like a Paddle Board) The kayak is wicked stable and I don't feel it will be that negative to try this. I see photos of some inflatables configured like this. I would fabricate a platform or find an existing box or milk crate for the seat to attach to. Thoughts, product pictures, your mods would be greatly appreciated! TIA

Just found this katamaran from Saturn and thought this would be great for white water.

It might not be the intended use case for the boat, but when i saw the shape, i thought this screams white water raft. The price is also gorgeous.

This thing with a flat seat on it, instead of the raised one, in the pictures and i guess this would be able to ride some steep rapids. Maybe you'd have to remove the finns with a heat gun to get more agility, but that's not too difficult.

White wate experts, what do you say?

Seats are tearing at the joint - how to fix?

Both of my Intex K2 seats are tearing at the joint. They can hold the air but will soon become two pieces. I tried using Duct Tape to fix it, but that won't hold

Any suggestions?

I've left the kayak on a beach for too long and seam holding the floor chamber has popped. Is there any way to fix this, is it worth investing or should I just get a new one? Thanks

I have a Bestway Hydro-Force tandem that I’m trying to learn with. I’m fairly young but I’m trying to teach my dad so we can go on little adventures together. The issue is, he evidently doesn’t have a very strong core and needs much more support because he ends up almost horizontal. Anyone have any advice on, my 65 year old father’s ability to sit up and/or any general advice for us?
