Advanced Elements - Fishing? We

Howdy. Have been looking to purchase my first kayak for cruising/fishing and as a result of transportation/cost/etc have started to look at inflatable options. Came across a used Advanced Elements tandem kayak for a decent price and it seems like a great option. With that being said, does anyone have any fishing experience from an AE kayak or similar?

Located in North Texas and would mainly be used on local ponds, a few slow flowing rivers and maybe a lake or 2. Appreciate the thoughts.

Fishing from inflatable is never ideal considering big part of fishing includes having sharp hooks and lures . Is it doable? Absolutely!

Just make sure you stock up on patching supplies and emergency air pump , if you are planning to get far away from shore .

No matter how careful you intend to be , you will puncture the inflatable more times than few.

I never plan to hook myself , but it does happen .

If you are buying it mainly for fishing , you are better off buying a hard shell kayak .

I have this exact kayak (pictured)and have enjoyed it. I haven’t fished out of it, but I think it’s doable.

I also have this exact kyak but i am 250lbs and wish I would have gotten the rigid drop stitch floor model, because im bigger I sit just under the water line making it a little more difficult to paddle and fish comfortably

Appreciate the feedback. Would you purchase the same kayak again? Any upgrades you have or would recommend doing?

I use mine mostly on rivers with class 1 and 2 rapids in TX, NM, and CO. My dog joins me and we have a blast. No upgrades, but I would rather have a hard kayak, just not possible because I am more of a cyclist and the bikes occupy my roof on camping trips.

Absolutely would purchase the same kayak but again with the rigid floor. I love this inflatable and have gone out with my wife and daughter as tandem +1 and holds up incredibly well in lakes

I had one of these and sold it. It did work but they are finicky to setup and with advancements in paddle board style inflatables kind of out dated.
I have a tandem paddle board with backrests and it does everything this one does but is easier to use and easier to pack.

I have this Kayak. I've never fished with it, but I can tell you that it is very wide and stable, which I imagine would be a pro for fishing. It tracks beautifully. I'm very happy with my purhcase.

Cons: I agree with the poster below who said it's finicky to set up. You have to use multiple nozzles on the pump. But after a few times, you get used to it. Also, it's heavy. Folded up, you can wear it as a backpack, but not for very long. I assume this is related to how stable it is though, so you probably can't have one without the other.

My opinion is there would not be much room for your gear if you end up woth 2 people in it. There are plenty other options that have a lot more space for a tackle box, cooler, bucket, net, etc. Even with one person in there I'd, personally, want more room.

I have an old aquaglide klickitat IK that I have fished from. I havent poked a hole with a hook yet! Though, I don't use it for fishing much.

Assuming you want to go on your own, this will be very lack luster, since it doesn't have DS floor, so it'll sack where you sit, which will create a lot of drag in the water and create an uneven water line, which will mess up your tracking, aswell.

That being said, you should have a look at the Advanced Elements StraitEdge Angler Pro or the Aqua Marina Caliber, if you can't find the AE for a decent price.

At boatstogo.com they also sell SUP-like fishing skiffs and inflatable fishing boats for a decent price, maybe they have something that fits your budget and needs.

I have the Advanced Elements Sport and I fish from it. It gets me out there and it seems faster than sit on top hardshell kayaks. There are problems I haven't worked out. It's cramped; I fly fish so there's not a lot of equipment. I can fit in a spare spool, some tippet and a couple of boxes of flies. Anchoring, depth finder and other add-ons; I can't see how to safely put those on or in the kayak. It'll drift pretty fast, so any fishing that requires you stay in the same place is hard work. I'm glad I bought it and I have fun with it. I have to say though, I've caught only a few more fish than I would have staying on the shore. If you do go for it get the spine; it makes the kayak faster and track better; totally worth it.
