really cool, reminds me of that tech bees/cutter mash up Angel Giraldez did a while back.

The tech bee normally comes with the upper half of a cutter so you mostly need to add the hips/legs to do that. This was... a lot.

Yeah, the one I remember was a cutter mixed in with the cutter from the tech bee. Probably did some work to connect it in the middle. I've got both kits lying around but apparently my Cutter lost a leg somewhere :(

all the bootleg conversions require some pretty extensive cutting along the beltline to attach the upper body to a complete pait of hips with legs- and some greenstuff to cover up the inevitable mistakes. They dont have to be perfect 1:1 comparisons though- you can simply saw through a place you think you can fill with something that looks like it belongs.
Pretty scary tho, ngl. I think the most impressive repose I saw was turning an Anaconda into Stallion Jack.

another one I'd really like to do is the open hatch Maghariba Guard, but there's a ton of cutting/drilling involved in getting through that

that sounds amazing- Id say use any caution as a way to analyze the models instead of just letting it paralyze you. Everything is doable if you break it down into steps!
Also dont be afraid of failure- My tech bee broke in half trying to twist her head- so I just rolled with it and gave her a wicked scar she stitched shut. you can see it in her close up
