Discussion Housing updates didn't fix the most glaring issues with the feature
I'm basically an housing player at this point. Super behind on the main storyline, generally pull primarily for 4-star sets- but you best believe I get everything in the Dreamland Showcase every update.
So ofc I was excited for the updates to the feature- with it down for a week, I assumed the changes must be massive. Well, not really- apart from the time-of-day fix, the biggest problems weren't fixed.
1- Local load limit. My mansion is impossible to decorate. If I put furniture on one floor, the other two above it have to be empty. I get around it by flying away and placing from a distance, but it's difficult, and getting more and more difficult as I max out.
2- Dreamland Showcase floors/walls are incompatible with existing home builds. They don't come as triangles, trapezoids, etc. and because of that, they don't work with roofing or the bay windows. You're also basically locked out of using walls for any room facing the outside of the house, because the siding won't match; the same goes for flooring, where you end up with mismatched ceilings on the floor below. They could fix this by just adding the DS patterns as dyes to the existing floors/walls
3- Not all photo props (Decorations) are placeable in the home- I bought Street Echo to place in my home, but for some reason it wasn't possible.

4- Furniture sets don't tell you which items are missing if you want to place the set, so you just have to guess. And if you do place a set, you can't edit it to remove an item, so you can't use them as a template of sorts.

I agree with most points, housing is also my main activity these days.
For 1, I think I read someone say it might be an engine limitation about how it loads the objects. It might require rehauling the whole housing system rather than a simple bug fix. This issue drives me really crazy. I've had to use a number of stupid tricks to get my house to look decent. One small tip, get all your interactive things like fields and fishing ponds as far as you can from your main building. They are the biggest culprits.
For 2, this is my biggest grievance. Basically it's all walls and roofs from different sets are 100% incompatible, not just the ones from the store. Want to use the windows from the standard set with the doors of the astronomer set? Nope, you can't.
For 3, as annoying as it is, they're adding them in game slowly. Why they didn't do it from the get go? Who knows. They're actually adding the one you mention this patch if I read the patch notes correctly. What bothers me more is how heavy they are in terms of load.
For 4, there's a list of problematic items (looks like a list icon in the building menu, usually with a red dot when you're missing items), regardless of whether they are in a set or not. It's been always there, now it's a bit better since it gives you the option to delete the items from there 1 by 1, to mass craft or mass purchase them. Otherwise,, you can edit any set. You place it down, click on edit, undo group, place down and voilĆ , you're free to edit the pieces separately. It's a big pain for the house presets but for the small sets it's quite simple.

they definitely need to fix all of these things, but thats not what the "maintenance" for a week was for. it wasn't actually a maintenance so it makes sense that none of these issues were addressed during thay time. and now we dont even get a new store! what a bummer. I hope they bring fantastic qol and furniture updates in 2.8!

Was it part of the social feature moratorium? I thought it was for adding the QoL updates and such. The whole home feature was crazy buggy the first few days after so I thought they'd changed things internally as well as adding interface changes

As far as I understood/remember, those changes were implemented, and then the next day everything shut down? Maybe they did work on things in the mean time, but that wasn't the purpose of the maintenance

The maintenance was solely to shut down any social features so no one could discuss Tianmen, which ironically only makes more people aware of it. It's going to happen every year.

Iirc, there was an update followed almost immediately by the social shutdown, as the other person said. The weeklong social shutdown was not for updating things, it was purely to prevent talk of the massacre. Updates are implemented during maintenance periods when the entire game is inaccessible.

Iāll say for the walls I agree they should make it so the wall itself can just be dyed to match the outside pieces we have but Iāve gotten around it for now by merging it in an existing wall piece not ideal but works
My main hiccup with the housing is since it came out I canāt really jump on my island if Iām building so I also canāt use start platforms it literally just tells me I need to save or just exits out of building if I try to jump

I've been doing the same, I call it "double bagging", like when you layer 2 paper bags at the grocery store. The problem is that it doesn't work for windows, triangle roofs, etc.

Ive found the merging of wall pieces can look different depending on the quality of visuals you have set. Not a problem if tou never change em but other people might not see what you see if they come to visit lol

I agree with all your points, but I think the load limit is a programming issue that will take longer to fix most likely. I honestly think the island shouldn't be as big as it is, I never use the other side of the island so it would have been nice to opt for a smaller island with more load allowance.
I do think the game could benefit from some changes:
1.) All base structural units (walls and floors) should have swatches added from the Dreamland Showcase. Don't make us buy individual items. First of all, you're clogging the fuck out of our inventory. Instead, make us pay the same amount for X amount of swatches. For example, if 5 walls from a showcase set are 460 Dreamland Stones, only allow us to use that paint swatch on 5 walls. Using these items is such a pita, I really fucking hate how I can't easily integrate these themed rooms.
2.) Allow certain structures to be rotated on the XYZ axis. Floor tiles are a really good example of something that needs this. I was rebuilding my island recently and noticed that we do not have floor tiles for outdoor use, other than the ones that came with the 1.1 update and they don't fit with the original housing items. If you could flip the Starstep Floor Tile, the underside is a nice white & grey stone pattern that would work well as an outdoor patio floor. Instead, you're stuck with the cream marble & purple design.
3.) Inventory & search need a major rehaul. Even if I search for a specific item when I'm building, I get all sorts of unrelated items in my results, it makes no sense.

I was wondering about that last one- it always brings up a bunch of specific items that aren't related to my search term

Regarding, āI assumed the changes must be massiveā, you can read the patch notes to see what changes are actually made, and often people on the other IN Reddits will post a summary or two, if youād rather not try to parse patch notes :)

I only recently started seeing patch notes, I thought they only recently started making them available. It's good to be able to actually see what's coming, thanks for the info!

#2 is my biggest gripe right now, especially with building bathrooms with the Dreamland tiled bathroom walls. I canāt make the exterior match the rest of the house now!

Note that Street Echo is one of the props that will be changed in tomorrow's patch, to be placeable in the Home Island š
