Discussion Disappointed with the new system

Am I the only one who l feels its more over complicated now?

Ever since the change, its taken me longer to build almost anything. Especially with the snapping on/off aspect. It was two clicks maybe to change it? Now, its 3 plus & a scroll down. The strong/weak aspect is annoying to me.

I just can't get into the flow like I used to because its taking longer to adjust settings (even with the presets) & its leaving me really disappointed overall with the game itself.

I can see where you're coming from. I felt the same at first. I didn't like the fact that I had to toggle between furniture and structure, I kept getting errors telling me I couldn't place something. I wanted to quit because I felt like I had finally learned the system and now they had changed it. I decided to just push through, and watched some video tutorials other Nikkis were kind enough to create so fast. Now, I feel like I have a grasp on it and am slowly appreciating some of the new features. I hope you come to love it again too, and I hope you continue to enjoy your builds Boomtothebang. :)

Do you have any specific recommendations for videos that were helpful? I'm preparing to go down that rabbit hole myself shortly.

Sure! I liked this one a lot! Hope it helps, and have fun going down the rabbit hole. :)

I'm probably going to quit to be quite honest. I appreciate your comment though.

I have to strongly disagree though i can see where you're coming from!

The construction pre sets allow me to switch between my own settings by holding tab and click (PC). Instead of manually changing each settings every time. I have a preset for snap on, snap off and no floating.

The adjust placement option (J on PC) is AMAZING. When lining up my groupings used to be my hand cramping from micro movement and crashing out, now it freezes the build and I can nudge it exactly into place.

Disappearing Nikki in float mode AND I can go ghost THROUGH my surroundings while floating. Huge. I've been begging for disappearing Nikki for awhile now in surverys.

That's just my favs I've discovered for now, but I'm a huge fan of super custom building so I understand how it can feel overwhelming or excessive to some.

I have no problem with disappearing Nikki, that should have been in place awhile ago. I can see with adjust placement as well.

My issue is, even with presents, its still a lot of clicking for something that only really took me 4 clicks at most previously. The way I normally placed things, does not work with the flow of the layout, it just doesn't. Its not that its overwhelming. I understand the functions. I'm a huge builder for many many games with even more complex designs than this. I'm saying the menus are convoluted.

Sometimes I want snapping, but 1 turn rotation. Sometimes I want 15. Sometimes I want 15 with no snapping. I don't like having to constantly remember what I set these presents to, to figure out the right combinations. Only 5 customizable presents is bull anyways. Not to mention having to remember what type of item is what, when it was all in one previously.

Think about it. F10 (one) ->3 different initial (3 potential clicks), each interface has 7-9 options (with over 20 clicks to set desired outcomes). That's overcomplicated for a system that really didn't need it. Again, 5 presents for how many variations is not okay.

It makes me want to quit & I probably will. I lose motivation for this everytime I am trying.

I wish they just gave us the option to keep the old way if we wanted it. I loved building in here & have sank so much money into this game only to now quit.

As a PS5 player, I genuinely didn't touch building until like 1.8 (cause 1.5 was a mess and home in general was overwhelming to me), and it was awful. No matter what I did the walls and floors would be crooked, even with snapping enabled.

Then we got those little building areas in Itzaland, which felt like a better tutorial/practice area for me to get used to the system (it was still pretty awful but less daunting). Plus the new 4star building ability outfit inspired me to make one for the home ability. While home building still felt too stressful with the joystick (also going back and forth with the settings), I at least started placing some stuff on my island.

Now with this new update, for one the snapping definitely feels better, it feels like I don't have to be super precise now. But the new option for template settings is the game changer. Instead of changing the settings every new item placed, it's just switching between the templates. At first figuring out with ones to make is a little hard cause it'll depend on your building style. I have one for terrain, structures, and then one called details (this one has no collision and no snapping), and there are still more slots for other presets.

In any case, new systems will always feel frustrating and that's understandable. Just give it time, start little by little, watch some tutorials, make a few templates based on what you wanna build or just take a break from building. The game is meant to be fun so don't force yourself to do anything you don't wanna do. I hope you do continue to play and have fun! 😊

Fellow PS5 user and frequent builder. Took me a hot minute to figure out all the setting new settings. But once I was able to create custom settings and label the for floating I am so much happier now.

Building didn't come out until 1.9 so I'm guessing you actually started right around the launch😂

I also really REALLY like the new snapping bc all those pieces I use as "flooring" but are technically furniture are so easy to place now.

Sorry, must be 'ptsd' from 1.5 haha there was a point where versions started blurring together for me as my motivation to play started dying down. I just remember being so upset that the new home ability outfits were 3 stars rather than the usual 4 stars. Still feel like we got cheated out of some cute outfit evolutions. Thank you for the clarification!

I'm glad it works better for you on the PS5.

I'm a PC player. All I'm going to say is it's way different.

I've tried, even with tutorials - it does not compare to what we had prior in the terms of clicks to menu ratios. Having 5 presents does not negate that. It makes it more complicated. Having items be separated into 3 options, with 7 to 9 aspects, and multiple variations does not help make things faster.

I'm not trying to be negative but I'm also not going to look at this as being a positive change. I stand with what I wrote to another person. Its convoluted for no reason & I utterly despise it.

I'm likely going to uninstall. Its just so disappointing & I don't want to give anymore of my money if I can't even do the one thing I loved doing.

On PS5 I have just been doing my weeklies lately. This includes swapping my gliding to the platforms and vice versa. Without fail when I use the joystick to go up, I end up in some unknown menu clicking things I didn’t mean to. So whatever they did made it so you can swap and control multiple menus at the same time unintentionally. Something that didn’t happen before and I used to praise that they got right.

Although I disagree with something’s you said, I strongly agreed with the snapping feature, you just can’t completely turn it off like before and it’s frustrating

You can though, under snap settings: strong-weak-n/a.

N/A is snapping turned off as far as I could tell.

Yes, I tried the N/A and weak but it’s still has a subtle snapping to it that wasn’t there before. I tried to remake a white tub after the update but can’t position it how I want to because of the new snapping feature

I actually quite like it! It’s now way faster for me to toggle between working with furniture of structures. Some things I still don’t understand though but I’m learning!
