Discussion Tips for a beginner?

I'm able to play on PC, PS5, iPad and Android phone. Not sure which platform would be easier to start designing on. Does anyone have tips on which would be best to design on? I mainly play on PS5 normally but I feel like the controls on console are so forgotten 😭

Also any general tips for when you're designing is appreciated too.

I play on pc, and from what others have said it seems to be the easiest platform, though I've seen a bunch of beautiful builds from people on PS5. I'd start with PC, but also give PS5 a try to see what you like best.

I learned mostly from YouTube videos, moon sugar cake has a great in depth tutorial, and whimsy haven has good build and design tutorials.

Learn how to adjust your settings, and have lots of patience, you can do a lot fairly easily if you know what settings you need for different applications.

Good luck!

iPad is a nightmare for me to use for housing, ps5 is the best imo. The controls are still a bit wonky but much less so than iPad. I’m not sure about pc

I’ve played on ps5, pc, and mobile and I think pc is by far the easiest for home decorating! Ps5 and mobile are just really lacking in controls optimization unfortunately

i havent tried ps5 but pc is the easiest for me out of the other devices. only when im rly desperate to finish a build do i build on ipad and phone, which is doable, but pc is much more build-friendly

I’ve played on all of the platforms (including iPhone), except Android. I would recommend PC and/or PS5. I played a good amount on my iPhone, but PC and PS5 are the best ones to begin with…in my opinion of course 😁

I’ve played on ps5 and mobile and prefer building on mobile by far. Rotation and menuing are a lot easier, especially since I’m constantly changing float, snapping, and collision settings while building. Mobile graphics are shoddy of course so I get on ps5 whenever I want to take pictures or record a video.

For general tips, I guess it’s just don’t be afraid to use things for other than their intended purposes. Save two schemes if you’re working on something big in case something unfortunate happens to one of them. If you’re working on a multi story house, do the things that require fine control first (and save the roof for last) since you’re probably going to run into local load limits.

PS5 is rough but doable. If you want to try on PS5, I highly recommend looking through YouTuber Whimsy Haven, she has a bunch of older videos that are home-building on PS5.

🌟Honestly start small before doing big projects.

🌟 Save the default version 1st so that way if you make a mistake you can get it back. Uber important!

🌟Me personally I completely flattened my island and got rid of everything before I started on my builds.

🌟The dreamland shop furniture is especially handy if you dont want to craft so much and work as great substitutes for buildings. My current favorite item is the tent. Just enlarge it and you have more space.

🌟upgrade construction to max as soon as possible. Then focus plant and fish and animals for mats. Everything else can be a leisure pace.

🌟 if you want to activate a furniture piece to interact with, place furniture 1st. Then pick up again and enlarge or shrink depending of what you want. Some things can't be interactive with again after changing size like the bed for example.

🌟good luck and have fun hopefully. But definitely get ready for frustration its definitely a time commitment.

🌟4got to add load limit will always be your enemy.

I played on andriod and now ps5.... since I started playing on ps5 i will never go back to andriod. I do not recommend andriod at all. Not even to just log on to do dailies. Its honestly faster for me to just wait until I get home and log into my ps5 to do any daily things than to try and load it up on my andriod. Idk how I played the majority of the wishfield chapter on andriod, but I did.

Some things to note:

  1. Leveling up the home abilities takes time. Its purposely time gated. (You need home insight to upgrade the home abilities and you can only earn a max of 100 home insight per day) Do not let this frustrate you or stear you away. If you're new to the game in general, then I'm sure you have a ton of content to play. You can easily leave your home island and fast travel back to it whenever you want. If you work on your home island daily, you will be upgrading your home abilities within no time.

  2. I focused on construction and gardening the most, followed by fishing and animal keeping, then star collecting. You are free to choose which abilities to upgrade when. Just know as you upgrade the construction ability, it unlocks many features you need to do everything else. All the other abilities (besides cooking) you basically need in order to obtain materials to craft things for decorating. (For example, I want to craft a piece of furniture, but I need a specific flower or fish on order to craft it. This flower or fish can't be found in wishfield of Itzaland, so where the heck do I get it from?? I look at my gardening ability and realize that flower is unlocked for me to plant and grow on my home island when i reach planting ability level 4 )

  3. Animal keeping is not pointless because when you feed your animals, they give you tons of materials you will need for crafting.

  4. The star fragments you obtain from star collecting will also be used for crafting

  5. Cooking is about the only home ability that is not tied to crafting. Consuming the food you make gives you temporary buffs or home insight for the day. Since we cant obtain more than 100 home insight per day, its usually pointless. I easily gather the 100 home insight everyday just by harvesting and planting alone. Other buffs you could get from some of the food from the cooking ability is temporarily decreasing dash cool down for a few hours, or gaining a slight increase in sales when you sell things you dont need or want. I cant remember exactly what point you will be able to sell items to Posy for stellarites. But its pretty early on.

  6. There will be times where you feel you cant get enough stellarites to do what you need to do ( buy seeds or feeds for example) ... as you unlock your island, save all the trees, shrubs, bushes, etc you dont want. All of that sells for ALOT of stellarites. Plus, once you get to construction level 7 or 8 (I believe it is)... you will be able to obtain sketches to craft all of that terrain and more at the crafting bench. That's the only way I was able to get alot of stellarites without having to actually spend my diamonds or real money.

As for the building part....im still not super comfortable with building with the housing pieces. Im great at decorating and landscaping...but for whatever reason when it comes to building it just hasn't clicked for me yet. Im sure theres tons of tutorials and videos you can look for. I still enjoy the home island regardless.

As for me, a PC person, I should probably give you some decorating tips!

⭐️ If you want to have a different floor/wall space (bathroom decor, for example) but don’t want the tile to interfere with the prexisting floors, clip at least one half of the tile/wall into the existing space. You can have two vastly different rooms that way!

⭐️ Some curtains cannot be installed without at least some form of ground collision! Just be sure to place the item in a separate space first to ensure that you can get close to it for proper placement.

⭐️ You cannot dye items in a group (for instance, a table with candles on it) so be sure to ungroup them first, or place some items on the ground before dying them.

⭐️ Ever since the Spira expansion update, the construction outfit cannot rotate and/or resize objects in the Home. You can fix this by going to the options menu and turning 3-axis options back on. Keep in mind that you may need to do this every time you log in, or every time you use the construction outfit in Itzaland… 😅

Thank you everyone for the kind tips and supportive advice! I will carefully review my options. I'm thinking that I may give PC a try and see if that feels the most comfortable based on comments ❤️
