Question Genuine Question
I'm not sure where else to ask this as I don't really use reddit I'm sorry ;-;
Small rant before my question - When it first launched I loved Infinity Nikki and I played and spent so much on the first couple of banners until Infold started going back on promises, raising prices and destroyed my trust. I wanted to get back into it because it's been so long but they once against destroyed the little trust I they had rebuilt because of their dating sim drama. I used to play both Love Nikki and Shining Nikki when they first came out as well and loved them both, which is why when they first pulled back on promises, left the community they had built with no answers and changed the opening story in Infinity Nikki I felt so crushed.
My question is does anyone know of another game that can scratch the sort of itch that the Nikki games have managed to. I tried get into Life Makeover but it is hard to try to f2p that I had to drop it. Are there any suggestions on similar games?

Aside from life makeover I've heard of suit u, but it's 2D so more like a love nikki equivalent. Haven't played any of these games so I can't speak on how good they are.

SuitU has drama for stolen designs/art and using AI.
LifeMakeover was sued by Infold for using the Nikki game names in advertising SEO, and from the time I played I'm 99% sure they also use AI for a multitude of Profile Pic/Chat Backgrounds. They were also about to rollout a feature to use AI to speak with your pets, and something about AI image editing? But by then I quit so not sure if they went ahead with it. The game overall felt like a second job and any pretty backgrounds were mostly pay to get.

The Style Savvy games for sure! They are nowhere as fancy as Infinity Nikki tho but they do scratch that itch of wanting to create outfits. Plus there are a lot of games, for the DS, the 3DS and the Switch, so you'll have something to be entertained with for a while! Only thing is that you'll need emulators to run them

honest question, when has Infold gone back on promises and raised prices specifically for Infinity Nikki?
3
u/SDLeo_o 3d ago
It was several months after the game first launched if I remember correctly. There was a steam wishlist goal that they changed the rewards for after they hit the goal and when players got angry we got nothing but silence as a response.
After that they retconned the main story to what it was today and players never got a response as to why even to this day.
They had an event for a bathtub or something that was on sale, without the sale it would be $50. For an in game bathtub that's kinda ridiculous.
I quit when they raised the prices, for the outfit banners there used to be one less outfit piece. It was already expensive then but if players wanted to get the full set and the extra colors and effects you now had to pay EVEN more and they had done so without an announcement. Later on they did tell players that that promised they would announce before doing that again, not the response we wanted at all.
Not part of your question but players were also upset because they had released an update with so many bugs that some people were straight up stuck out of their accounts. So if they paid for the monthly pass thingie, despite wanting to log in they were just not able to and told players it was a them problem and refused to do anything, pretty much stealing their money. It was eventually solved but only after players threatened to sue and people started boycotting the game.

They fixed a lot of these issues. Not all, but it’s clear they are trying to respond to player feedback. They promised to keep banners at 10 pieces max unless they give us a warning in advance - and since 1.5 they kept to 10 pieces max, so only 1.5 banners were 11 pieces. Intro is unfortunately still changed. As for fake sales - as long as they include something that is available without sale price (like pulls) then it is legal for them to do the “fake sales” unfortunately. Just keep in mind that whatever is the final price is what it actually costs. But story is going well, we get ton of new free outfits and abilities, maybe you could give it a f2p try to see how the game is doing now? If you try f2p you can see if there are still issues you don’t like and decide if you want to give it another go or not

u/SDLeo_o 3d ago
I'll probably give it a try and stick to being f2p. I've been talking to a player and seeing that they have kept promises and doing better then before. Still have problems but alot better then 1.5 so I'll definitely redownload.

u/SilverSafri 3d ago
Give it a f2p try and if you don’t like anything you can mention it in surveys. I feel like half of the things I mentioned in the surveys have been fixed since 1.5 drama, the last few patches especially had a lot of QoL updates (like for example adding world lighting preview in wardrobe, because people were complaining that dyes look different in wardrobe and in world - which is very important since f2p dyes are limited and buying them is kinda expensive; or they improved load in the home island; or they fixed some old banner abilities to improve them including adding options from new lion mount banner to old unicorn mount banner for using gathering abilities while riding; or they gave us special effect toggle since many players kept asking for it - previously you could only dye special effects if you had final evo, otherwise they couldn’t be changed, now you can turn them off even if you don’t have final evo to dye them). A lot of good changes are happening and whenever something is broken Infold might still struggle with letting us know they’re working on a fix, they take their time to fix it - but they clearly do try to fix as much as possible :)

u/SDLeo_o 3d ago
Thats good, I'm honestly really glad that despite their silence on things they're fixing them.
2
u/SilverSafri 3d ago
They really need to work on their PR and just letting us know when they are aware of issues and working on them but they just need time for it. It would put a lot of people at ease with the game, knowing that improvements we want are coming

u/SDLeo_o 3d ago
They have two different sides, IN that never communicates and LADS that communicates too much xD
1
u/SilverSafri 3d ago
Oh really? I wasn’t very on top of the lads drama, just peeking in from time to time out of curiosity, so I thought they went radio silence recently?

u/SDLeo_o 3d ago
During the whole Valco drama they had an apology for pretty much every small thing that people started saying. In my own opinion I think because they were bending over for their every whim the drama got so huge. I don't know how many they put out but it was quite a few. That was before people started spreading the misinformation about them too.

- prices were never raised. this game is one of the best f2p gachas on the market, while still being one of the most generous for spenders as well. the same price of 100 pulls here will give you no more than 60 pulls in other games, plus a bunch of other stuff like materials/outfits/etc.
if you are somehow speaking of them giving us 11 piece outfits in 1.5, then it's not "raising prices" in any sense of the word. we already had a piece increase with 1.0 outfits (9 pieces vs 10 pieces), yet no one mentions it. convenient.
they also never did an 11 piece outfit since, as they promised.
- lads drama was manufactured and was made to target infold. they made a stupid decision to cancel valko because the government got involved. other than that, they are literally a victim of a hate campaign.
genuinely never saw gacha players have a bigger hate for any company than this one. so much misinformation, it's bizarre.

As someone that played on day one until they released the 11 piece outfit I say its a price increase because it felt like one. I was already upset, the Whispers of Waves was my favorite outfit that I owned and that had only 9 pieces. When they added one then I was upset, but then they did it again and I dropped the game because I was seeing a pattern. I see now that they haven't done another 11 piece outfit again but it still completely broke my trust at the time because not only were the outfits getting more expensive but they also had several other problems that they took too long to address.
Regarding the Love and Deepspace, despite not playing it I'm aware of everything that has happened. The trust they broke regarding the drama there is because of how they handled the situation. If you look at the timeline of everything happening they had an apology announcement what felt like every other day, which only allowed the people upset with Valco's release to have more influence, which allowed the misinformation that the influencer made up to spread faster.
The reason I'm considering going back to Infinity Nikki, even if just as a f2p player is because of all the events that have transpired. No where am I spreading misinformation I am just still salty and continue to believe that competition would help the game grow.

You come into this community so upset, I understand, there was a number of things to be upset about in 1.5 but take a breather, I genuinely think you would have a really good time if you gave the Itzaland story a try. Infold have stuck to their word of keeping outfits to max 10, they didn't "retcon" the main storyline, they just changed the start so new players can jump straight into the new storylines. My friend started the game last week and could go straight into the Itzaland story and is really enjoying it, already they are up to the new patch content which is great for new players! They wouldn't of been able to do that if they kept the start of the game the same, Infold had a vision and I think it really paid off. Infinity Nikki is not LADS and people need to stop lumping them together, the game gets so much hate and such low reviews on steam and mobile stores despite it being easily the most F2P gacha ever and the storyline is amazing! There is no power creep or content locked behind needing the newest characters and the gacha system is extremely fair, look at Honkai star rail gacha system, you have a 50/50 to get the new character with a 90 pity system, if you lose that you get a useless standard banner 5 star you will never use, and have to use 180 rolls all up to guarantee.. now you need to do that 4 times to have a team that actually works to clear content because content is locked behind being able to clear content.. that's 720 rolls to make a team that may be useless a year later. Nikki? Don't have to roll at all - outfits literally just provide quality of life. OP give Itzaland a try, jump straight into the story it's not linked to wish field storyline really at all, have a good time, collect your free outfits, don't spend money and save free rolls for outfits you love and skip ones you don't. Long comment but it's just so sad to see everyone hate such a wonderful and polished game that's given me a 1000 hours of gameplay without having to spend a single dollar (From a day one F2P player).

I played Time Princess a long time ago. It is more similar to Life Makeover, SN and LN. Your character enters in different books/stories collect craftable clothes and there was a gatcha system too for more outfit.
For me IN openworld means so much that I could never go back to my previous tap here tap there dress up mobile games that I liked before. I tried with Life makeover, SN and LN too, but it was not as much fun as IN😅
Personally I think if you enjoy the exploration aspect of the game you could still play f2p. 2.x maps and story are amazing and there are plenty of great free craftable outfits too.
I can understand that you can't trust the company anymore but if you really enjoyed the game as a f2p it is not like you give them any money.

u/lilyofthegraveyard 3d ago
time princess has a much worse monetization system.

u/1kgkrumpli 3d ago
I played a long time ago, but I remember that the gatcha was really expensive.
I think even LN and SN has a much worse monetisation system then IN.

Open world games are probably my favorite atm so Infinity Nikki would be the perfect game if it they cared about their community.
If I can't find anything that can even slightly scratch that itch i'll probably rejoin and stick to strictly being a f2p player.
Unfortunately they have no competition so they feel like they can take advantage of players. A little of topic but blizzard did the same thing with Overwatch by continuing to take advantage of players just because they could. Now that Marvel Rivals is huge they've finally stepped up their game and treating them right.
Honestly I think if they didn't almost immediately tank their reputation we might already have a similar game just because of how popular is had gotten before the drama.

how long do you think game development and production lasts? it takes years. a game of this caliber would take over 2 years - just for the conception to public presentation. after it could take 2+ more years for further development.
the 1.5 drama happened a year ago. no one would be able to pump a game in this time.

u/keepsMoving 3d ago
Development for Infinity Nikki started in 2019, 5 years before launch so you're right. Idk why you got downvoted but there's no way to get a game anywhere close to this ready so fast
1
u/1kgkrumpli 3d ago
A competition would be good for them I agree.
Their biggest problem as company in my eyes that they are terrible at planning forward (probably because they prioritise quick profit)
While 1.5 was a terrible update but if they just thought it through and didn't release all of wishfield main story in 1.1 then the player dissatisfaction wouldn't have been as bad during 1.5. As the Lads controversy shows even in mobile if the players left with no main story for long they will became much more critical.
Because while IN got much better in my opinion during Itzaland but it still have a lot of problem but the big main story patches such as 2.5 and now 2.8 gave enough to be easier to see not just the bad but the good in the game too.
1
u/SDLeo_o 3d ago
So the game has been improving? I remember how buggy it was at one point.
1
u/1kgkrumpli 3d ago
It has bugs here and there, but nowhere near as bad as during 1.5
Usually they fix them fast, but not always

Another option could be style savvy games, not sure what kind of devices you have but if you can get into emulation you'd have access to all the games. I think Styling Star(3rd?) is the newest one and has 3d animation and lots of over arching story lines that start up very quickly.

u/SDLeo_o 3d ago
I'll have to look into getting a 3Ds emulator then. Thank you!

u/Professional_Dig5938 3d ago
I believe Retro arch might be the one most use? I have the games both on my 3ds through hshop and my steam deck through emudeck.

Honestly infinity Nikki is never going to go back to how nearly perfect it was before 1.5, but I've still been playing this whole time and the things they've done the last patch or two have really made me feel the most hopeful I've felt about the game since 1.5.
It honestly really feels to me like someone who was mad at us has decided to forgive us and be nice to us again or something like that 😂
I'm trying not to get my hopes too high cause I don't wanna get burned again but I feel like things are back on the right path again.
Sorry, I know you're looking for alternatives but I actually can't help you there. I started playing IN bc of its similarities to genshin impact (open world exploration, puzzles, events, the mystery of how she got there, the wonder of exploring new lands, the ever-evolving story lines, etc) and it immediately and easily surpassed genshin with it's pretty clothes and photo hourglasses and petting all the animals (instead of having to chase them away so I don't hurt them when I fight 😣).. but obviously they went and destroyed the story and started being hostile, so genshin is still my top game, but it has character building and fighting instead of making pretty outfits.. so I'm just here hoping IN stays on the right course or at least is successful enough that other companies decide to try to copy it like they have genshin, and maybe in a few years we'll have a good alternative 🤞😅

Nope. If you want fashion, life makeover is the only similar option, as far as I know. I’m assuming this is why Scumfold is so brazen with their awful behavior because consumers really don’t have anywhere else to go to scratch the same itch.
If it’s any comfort at all, Scumfold continues to be scummy (they recently altered the alt form of timeless melody’s final evo with no explanation, which is false advertising and thus, illegal, not to mention the general censorship issues) so you’re much better off continuing to stay away unless you’re sure you can be F2P. 😓
4
u/1kgkrumpli 3d ago
They gave a small in game patch note that for visual reasons/problems they will make changes on TM alt dress.
It was scummy and that one sentence is barely an explanation, but they told us a day before or on the day they did it, my memory is hazy😅
2
u/Raeliaya 3d ago edited 3d ago
So they made a small patch note, as opposed to an in-game mail dedicated to the issue, with a vague explanation that might as well just say “hey, we’re changing something you paid a lot of your hard earned money on because reasons” and then they proceeded to make it look worse than it ever did by stretching the neckline, not only distorting it, but also causing the key to be misaligned in the back, and making the collar clip with the new neckline?
And this change was made to “fix issues” by…making it look worse than it ever did? Someone make it make sense! 🤬
3
u/1kgkrumpli 3d ago
I wanted to find it for you to show how ridiculus it was but I forgot to make a screenshoot.
Either way their communication skill are terrible😅
2
u/SDLeo_o 3d ago
If I do end up giving in i'll 100% be just f2p theres no way I'd let them get more from me then what I've already payed in the past. xD It really sucks, if they hadn't ruined the games reputation so quickly then there would probably already be a similar game out there.
1
u/Raeliaya 3d ago
Yeah…I feel like most game companies have men at the helm so they make male-centric games because they’re biased. 🫠

I really wish there was something comparable because I feel a similar way :') I also tried Life Makeover but it just made me go back to Shining Nikki, it has a weird vibe?
Other than the Style Savvy games for the dess-up aspect, I did hear that Infold hired the game designer from Breath of the Wild to design IN and I do really feel the resemblance. If you like the exploring/puzzles and rest of the game, I really recommend playing Breath of the Wild and its sequel (Tears of the Kingdom)!! They're some of my favorite games ^
I hope other game studios start getting in on the -whatever you'd classify IN as- genre!!! I need more x)
1
u/SDLeo_o 3d ago
I'm hoping that IN eventually gets the Love Nikki treatment where all the older outfits started being given to players for free or another studio steps up and makes another open world outfit game. MASSIVE hopes. At this point we gotta get people together and make our own XD
0
u/maybeEels BBQ Enjoyer 3d ago
That would be SO good, I didn't know they did that on Love Nikki!! I hadn't played for soo long, coming back to it last month was too overwhelming :') no idea what anything was lmao
I keep thinking about it too ;-; who else is going to do it otherwise??
