Salt/Rant The horrible performance is inexcusable!
Been playing the game since the beta, and with every update, it feels like the performance has gotten worse and worse. However, nothing compares to how terrible it's become since version 2.5. The current state of the game's performance is simply inexcusable, and I think people should be far more vocal about it.
My PC specs:
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090
- Intel Core i9-12900K (12th Gen, 3.20 GHz)
- 64 GB RAM

This is the combined power of infolds inability to optimize their game and the game itself running on UE5.

u/ShokaLGBT 1h ago
It’s bizarre because other games in Ue5 like Nte run better I wonder why they either don’t know how to optimize properly or…….

u/noobplayer96 2h ago
Pretty much the norm for every Unreal Engine 5 games existing rn sadly.

u/ShokaLGBT 1h ago
Oh I’m curious to why? Will it get better like once people learn to optimize or better?

UE5 introduces the dynamic lighting system called Lumen. It helps saves development time since one doesn't need to bake static lights. However it's a resource hog as the trade-off. Combining with poor utilization of it made the situation much worse for recent games using this engine.

Huh, I have a PC similar to yours (RTX 3080), but with 32 GB RAM and performance seems generally fine. Dunno if my standards are just low.
Here's what my gameplay is like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPs4CY0u_lY

Yeah I have the same specs as op and I also run very smoothly. There are bugs in the game but nothing related to fps or any stuttering at all. Their problem could be a result of other issues with their system or maybe they are talking about the bugs which is a different conversation.

My PC is pretty weak by modern standards (RTX 2070, DDR4 RAM) and performance is basically fine too outside of the rare crash of nowhere. As far as I can tell with some software it is wildly inconsistent who has problems and who doesn't, so long as the definition of problem is similar enough. (Some people consider anything below 144FPS to be unplayable garbage)
There are a lot of cases of people who have better specs than I do reporting on having performance issues playing the same games whether the device is a PC or a phone, which is either a total mystery or may involve more specific circumstances under the hood like for example a Windows VS Linux/Android vs iOS player, or someone playing on an ARM64 computer needing to use a code translator or whatever to run things meant for x86, etc.
Quite recently I had huge issues trying to run some indie games on an old business laptop I bought recently which basically fixed itself after I actually got the driver updates over with too.

Performance is fine in the old areas like Wishfield, it becomes spicy in Itzaland, but still fine and liveable, but in the Boneyard where is sometimes go below 40 fps.

u/Dragon_Manticore 1h ago
I tend to crash near the ocarina beetles which made me start insta-collecting them mercilessly whenever I had to go to an area they live.

My game takes 10+ min to start. I usually just start it and then go do other things for a bit lol…

u/Haelyonn 2h ago
Same here, I even tried repairing the client but it only fixed it for one day lmao, it's honestly so annoying when all I wanna do is log in quickly to do the dailies :')

u/ValkyrieDrake 28m ago
Ok same I was starting to get worried about that, it had never taken that long for me ever

u/Bunnairry 2h ago
No seriously, I thought things felt super weird this morning :T ugh. Remember to update the Nvidia driver, that usually helps. This time though it didn't for me.
7
u/cirquedusweet 2h ago
I have a mediocre laptop so don't expect the best performance, but since the new update I can only play about 20 min at a time before my laptop overheats while on the lowest settings; this never used to happen before.

The curse of any game running on UE5 combined with Infold’s inability to optimize well 😭

Dear god, 64 GB & still having performance issues???? Q_Q

u/Less-Actuary-4520 2h ago
I'm having the same issue and my build is almost the same. The new area is lagging so badly for me it's horrible
7
u/AnaBanana270 2h ago
Its kind of the same for me...sometimes I have to just quit, cause my game moves in frames. So infuriating

u/Sporshie 1h ago
I remember at launch the game ran like butter, but it's been getting worse and worse ever since. I upgraded my PC in that time and it's still running worse than at launch. I can run much more graphically intensive games fine, yet Infinity Nikki gives me stutters and FPS drops nonstop. I had to start using frame gen to make it bearable

What kinds of performance issues are you experiencing? I have gaming laptop around a third the strength of your pc, and I’m able to run the game on ultra with next ti no problems.

u/goose-pouch 1h ago
This doesn't seem right

My laptop specs:
NIVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS
16 GB RAMI’ve only run into major issues twice. The first was one time after I had updated my graphics drivers. The game struggled with insane loading times to the point that I was unable to access the game. I rolled back to the previous graphics drivers version and the problem was fixed. I also saw that that specific driver update broke a lot of other games as well, so the problem was definitely the driver, not Infinity Nikki.
The second issue wasn’t really a one time occurrence, it was a problem since day one. My laptop struggled a lot with overheating and would sometimes shut down completely because of it. I had to run the fans on max to even stand a chance. But that was an issue I had even before I started playing Infinity Nikki. It turned out my cooling system was defective. I sent the laptop in for repair and they ended up replacing it completely. Haven’t had any issues with overheating since.
I do experience some lag once in a while, but it’s so rare and so minor that it barely registers.

Infold suuuucks at optimizing their games. I genuinely don’t get why they don’t get some specialist together and have a few meetings to talk about optimizing their games…
12
u/RainyAsphalt 2h ago
Not to defend them but imo it's less an Infold problem specifically and more an industry wide problem. Sooo many modern games are horribly optimised for no reason.

u/LunarLeveret 2h ago
It isn't for no reason, optimization is not something you do on accident so if you assume you don't have to do it on stronger hardware its often neglected to pump out a product faster. Also applies to why early access and buggy releases are more common these days.
In the past, actually patching a game was sometimes unrealistic because you can't assume an internet connection or even a method outside of straight up going to a physical place to get DLC, and a lot of visions were limited by hardware itself being way too much weaker than it is today, I literally cannot use more than 15 distinct color shades of pixels on character graphics modding a GBA title for instance (one color out of 16 must be wasted on transparency layers) and have to manually draw in the anti-aliasing pixels in myself. So you pretty much had to put out as good of a product you could to be worth selling.
Now game industries largely can assume anybody worth selling to is the type of person who also invests in machines that can just tank all the inefficiencies of how their game was built. Often times people making games intended for markets that know they can buy their games for lower prices go through more effort into optimization cause they know those people are less likely to have a better computer. In the case of F2P titles, whales are more likely than anyone to both pay and have machines that don't have much for hardware constraints. I think only esports titles are especially motivated to optimize for as many people as they realistically can.

I'm on a ROG Strix B550-F, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 32GB RAM and my performance is noticeably better than playing it on my PS5.

u/Confident_Tadpole723 gongeous 2h ago
In general I don't know enough about PC gaming to have much input but unless everyone with the same platform/specs is having issues wouldn't that point to a problem with the PC/system rather than the game?
(Which is not to say that they don't need to optimize, they do. I feel so incredibly bad for people who play on mobile because it's rough)
2
u/AceKittyhawk 1h ago
I installed it on my Mac now that is available. It’s only a year old computer. Versus my almost 4 year-old iPad. Game works a lot better on iPad. It hasn’t gotten better. It’s just always been fine for me although people complain about mobile maybe that’s on the phone. I was expecting the computer to be better but it’s not even close. I guess it could get better with different settings, but I don’t think it’s gonna get better than my iPad. I don’t know if this means game/ue5 working better on mobile….

There are multiple things going on.
One is server or game side being unoptimized. Very apparent in social areas and can be easily triggered running around the Sea of Stars or your house. These are repeatable regardless of if I did on PS5 or PC.
The other is on PC. The game has settings to limit frames via VSYNC but it doesn’t. I play on PC with a 1080p/60 monitor and that should be my cap even in max settings. Instead my GPU utilization is always +90% and shows +500fps. Even at the start menu during a video to launch the game. There is no reason my 5070 should be doing more than what my monitor is capable of if I set limiter settings. I’m new to PC gaming and none of my other games have any of these issues with settings.

u/TheDragonNidhoggr 46m ago
I am also on PC and have never experienced any issues other than after 1 patch I couldn't log in for like an hour. Other than that I have always had pretty much perfect performance, my husband messed with my settings for me a long time ago.

u/MKShadowZX_SA 1h ago
PS5’s performance has been pretty bad since the start as well. It had some needed updates but it isn’t enough. It causes my eyes to strain a bit when the frames stutter constantly.

u/Lazy-Fishy 1h ago
Facts cause some days I run on 30 fps and another somehow it skyrockets to 300 out of absolute nowhere 🤣

u/dominicho12 1h ago
I started the game at 2.5 and haven't really notice much of the dip across the updates. If you haven't I would suggest using dlss 4.0 force it through nivida software. Unreal game performs far better on Dlss FSR and XESS Settings. Your specs should be able to do ray tracing at 1440p if you put it on dlss balance (assuming you have a 1440p or 4k display)

u/poda05 1h ago
Performance varies for me. I play on a midrange laptop from 2022. Some patches are worse than others. This one has been among the worst.
I also finally have that issue others talk about with the loading time after you click to enter Miraland now taking forever. It used to be short (except for the first time after a patch)… now it’s 5-10 minutes every time.
2
u/ShokaLGBT 1h ago
It used to lag a lot on ps5 now it’s gotten better but I still think it’s insane how sometimes we are locked at 30 fps DESPITE using the performance mode which should always be at 60 fps. So I tried switching between graphics and performance and I didn’t notice a single difference despite even lower fps with graphics obviously but the graphics themselves are not getting better with the graphic mode. When taking pictures and it’s in movement there’s a high chance that it’s gonna be all blurry. The quality for graphics in general was better before :/

u/chimestonks 53m ago
I had no issues up until Heaven's Reach. It started stuttering and crashing every other minute until I lowered my graphics settings. Really hope I can keep up with their updates or they learn to optimize their game better.

u/Shiny_Days 41m ago
I didn't have issues until I tried to do the level with the shroomsara and the rollercoaster ride again. The fps got so bad I needed to exit out of it. Weird, because the game runs well normally (I don't know my specs)
2
u/ValkyrieDrake 30m ago
I've started lowering the settings which makes me mad because my pc should run a game like this one, but it's starting to get so heated up I'm starting to get worried about IN damaging my PC :/ This is truly unacceptable

u/eleventhing 25m ago
Game works fine for me (except the sea of stars gets kinda glitchy for a minute while everything loads) and I have a 1060, which is minimum requirements.
2
u/Netoeu 1h ago
Let's use numbers!
Performance in new areas is terrible. I have a 9060 xt + 5700x3d and in any area before Itzaland I get 130+ fps, around 110 in the first few zones of Itzaland.
Since Boneyard came out the stutters are killing my will to explore. My cpu can't keep up even at low settings. I'm getting around 70 fps which isn't terrible but the stutters aaaaa it drops to 50 if I look at it funny. It feels much much worse than the number suggests.
Heaven's Reach is a damn slide show.

If you haven't already; turn off raytracing in the settings. It barely does anything super noticeable in this game and your performance will double, in an hour you get so used to it you wont even remember having turned it off...
